Don't Let The Pigeon Drive

Opening short Love Song: Well that escalated quickly. The lady bird ending up with the country-singing chicken was kinda funny though.

Movie: A bit predictable outside of a few WTF moments (convenient lightning strike putting Father Hawk at the bird hospital is a tonal whiplash that'd make me blush) but otherwise it's a cute distraction elevated by a likable main character, some zany but also sweet animation and some fairly funny one-liners. Not anything spectacular, but your kids are going to enjoy it a lot.

The Lonely

It's been too long since I've done one of these:

WHAT.

THE.

FUCK.

Even looking past its amazingly misjudged ending (the only worse thing it could've done was have Andy go on a shooting spree) this is a slog and a mess at the same time. I mean, the idea is there but combined with the fact that Andy's issues with being more attached to his phone than talking to real people is repeated over and over and over and yet still executed to either a really bad or a really lackluster degree. Gore Verbinski can film all the pretty angles he wants but it doesn't change the fact that it's the bad cousin to Notes From the Otherspace.

The mother attempts to contact her daughters via cellphone telling them they are own their way home from the movies, joking about how cheesy the movie they saw was, claiming the movie missed the entire second act, commenting on how they should’ve seen the giant robot movie,

Ayyy

* Five seconds later *

But before the mother gets a response, a car appearing out of nowhere, crashes into them, fatally injuring. Nani hears the news immediately and drives Lilo to the hospital. We then cut to the funeral being held.

Nayyyy

No seriously, that's not even a tonal whiplash, that's a tonal neck breaker.

Lilo & Stitch - A little better than Treasure Planet mainly because it takes a few more chances (Jumba's backstory was fairly moving actually) even if it has those tonal whiplash moments. B

Island of the Blue Dolphins

Quote

Suddenly, the captain pulls out a gun and shoots Chief Chowig.

A loud ban is heard and six of the warriors fall dead and many more continue to fall.

Karana kneels by her father’s body crying as the waves crash into the shore.

She sees a pack of dogs circling a body lying on the ground. She hurls her spear at one of the dogs killing it. The other wild dogs take off running. We see Ramo lying on the ground dead.

The next day when she is out canoeing she spots on of the male seals died on the shore. Hundreds of gulls swarm around the body picking the bones clean.

A group of dogs dash out. She quickly kills them.

She lets the arrow fly. It strikes the dog in the chest.
