Population growth in India is at 1.5% now compared to 1960-70 it was 3%. So the population did increase but it wasn't much. Also movies in 20th century used to stay in theatres for more than 2-3 years and used to gross less but admission were high. Now movies don't last more than 2-3 months in theatres and also they gross more but admissions are way too low. So End game can be called as blockbuster movie in India whereas Titanic was just hit movie...

You are wrong, acorrding to india offical box office website, eight Hollywood movie was be called Blockbuster in India:Jurassic Park,Titanic spiderman3,2012,Furious7,The Jungle book, Avengers Infinity War,and EG.

You only consider about some movie on screen in more and more time, you forget the number of screen are increase ,and number of cinema.

Then why Chile went from 75 million admission in 1967 (with a population of 9 million) to 28m admission in 2018 (with a population of 18m)? And then why the number of cinemas in the center of the capital went from 37 in the 60's to just one today ?

Yes,you are right,so there is no competition bewteen a movie which from two different,Titanic beat Chile box office record,EG did it too.In my country China,Titanic beat box office record,EG take the third place, after WW2  and The wandering earth.

1950 it went upwards, the worst of the war aftermaths was done

1956 = 817.5m admissions, the highest recorded after the war

~ 1960 television started here to have an impact, 10 years after the first station opened people bought in high numbers TV (prices got more reasonable, people were back from earning to survive / rebuild to actually having some spending money). Cinema admissions down down down, beside the population increased and the people earn enough spending money for a cinema. But also for computers, consoles, games, smartphones, home theatres, music, travelling, high quality food, 3rd car for a family,....

'80/'90 home video starts to have an impact (VHS developed in 1976 in Japan)

Population increased from ~ 64m after the war to ~ 72m in 1960

Today its ~ 83m.

Last year was still a bad year....

Only to show why a sole 'but the population increased!' argument is not making a lot of sense.

I am getting so tired of those 'need to find anything to bring not needed comparisons' into a movies OS thread

I think to compare different time movie, the best way to see them in their own time to get the list of which, as an example, the Titanic to break a UK box office record, in the UK box office ,007 :spectre is higher than the Titanic, but spectre only rank third place in Uk, so the Titanic is more popular in the UK;In China, the Titanic broke down China's box office record, Decetive China town(our local film) at the box office in China is higher ten times than the Titanic, but Decetive China town only take third place in China, so I can feel the Titanic is more popular.

Titanic break at least 57 markets box office record at 1998.

I have a India friend on Quora,he told me Titanic is really popular in India, everybody in India see that movie at 1998,and he look it in 5 times.

Titanic break Hollywood record in India,EG did it too,so they are both popular,Titanic was called Blockbuster in india, too.

No one is saying Titanic wasn't popular. What are you even arguing about at this point?

there is no need to repost the same to different members. It was another time, too many details varied since then, it makes no sense at all to compare in such a way (in my POV it makes no sense to compare at all)

It would have been nice if you'd read my last sentence.

Maybe this helps:

This is not the Titanic thread, we all here know what Titanic managed (and other movies), we all are very aware about how a lot of details play into how to perceive certain details.

All of them got repeated here for at least ~ a hundred times (it feels like way more)

I can understand to a degree the wish to look into where another movie is still higher placed or whatever, especially around the time a record gets achieved (or nearly achieved), but the record is down, all is said, its done.

Lets get back to AEGs OS / ww BO!

If details arise I am very interested into HV, digital... details worldwide, even merchandising.

After so many OT here, so many derailments... its enough in my POV. Like since a way too long time.

I gave the chart only to show why the sole population argument should get buried, like now and forever.

Look at it like this : Sholay movie 250M admission. Hum apke he kaun, DDLJ - 150M+ admission. In that era Titanic 20M admission. Now at present Dangal 45M admission, Tiger Zinda Hai -40 M admission. Endgame - 20M+ admission. Judge for yourself

I hope the next time any movie nears any record-holder we will get an own xxx-movie appreciation thread, so there the people who feel the need to derail a movie's thread can celebrate their focus.

Not like fandom wars in dom, but more short-lived (like packed away a few months after 'something' happened) and definitive with good manners.

FFS its like you people have no self control whatsoever. An obvious alt or a movie fanatic comes in here and derails the thread and you people are all too happy to indulge in off topic back and forth arguments that has happened for fucking forever and that leads nowhere, instead of doing the right thing and ignore the trolls and report them for derailing.

Admissions of Avatar were less than half of Titanic in India. Endgame beat Titanic admissions here.

Same in case of Brazil.

I found some data, before Titanic, highest grossing film in Brazil only gross R15m,when Titanic release in Brazil,it break Brazil box offoce record and gross R75m,so Titanic definitely more popular in Brazil.

And worldwide,Titanic break 57 markets box office record, and beat Hollywood film record in india.

EG beat 18 markets box office record.
