Spidey Freak
How can you say "unlike Pixar" when it's taken Disney a decade to get its act together? Cars 2 was only two years ago. Cars 2, Brave and MU were all weaker than their predecessors not named Cars. Director change for TGD does not sound too encouraging either. Spidey Freak
Made it more slapsticky and removed a lot of the mother-daughter relationship to make more time for funny Dad/triplets antics Hmm, I suspected as much. The slapstick in Brave was unbelievably unoriginal and boring.
TMP
Pixar's current curve reminds me SO MUCH of Disney Renaissance fall slowly starting from Pocahontas and ending with utter shit like Chicken Little and Home on the Range. Unlike Pixar though, Disney Animation actually looks like it is steadily rising again with Princess and the Frog, Tangled, Wreck-It-Ralph and now the epic looking Frozen and Big Hero 6 on the horizon! You think this shit looks epic? This looks nearly as bad as Ice Age
whoot
F*ck. Do something like that, he might leave Pixar.Yeah seriously, that's why this news pisses me off. Petersen is one of their best story guys.
whoot
Reading around, apparently bob Petersen hasn't tweeted since June and has removed "Been at Pixar since 1995" from his bio. Welp, there goes another one.
Olive
That's really bad news, F**k you, John Lasseter
Chewy
All the BTS drama at Pixar these days
John Marston
so how will this affect the film now?
Spidey Freak
You think this shit looks epic? This looks nearly as bad as Ice Age Do you know anything about the rest of the movie? This was just a little teaser for the Dreamworks/cutesy animals crowd in America. The Japanese and French trailers were more faithful to the actual tone of the film and from what tidbits I have been hearing, it sounds simply amazing.
CaptainJackSparrow
Up was when Pixar started to decline, IMO. I loved Incredibles. Also, don't trash Ice Age, the first was a classic! And I love Frozens teaser.
CaptainJackSparrow
Sad to see the director get removed. Hopefully this doesn't end up like Cars 2, as I am really anticipating this.Yay, 2800 posts! Edited August 30, 2013 by KingKong
AniNate
They're saying he's got another project lined up with them, but I can't help but take any apparent silver lining with a grain of salt these days. I know this is how most animation studios work, but it's still disheartening to see personal stories be taken out of the original author's hands.
whoot
I'm personally really bummed because I was really looking forward to seeing Petersen's first shot in the directors chair. But yeah, none of us know how that really went behind the scenes...Pixar is 0 for 3 in keeping artists taken off the director's chair midway through the movie. I don't see how this will be any different. It's probably pretty stressful and embarrassing having your creation taken away from you after all the hard work you've put into it.Also to be fair to Lasseter - is he spending much time in Emeryville nowadays? Disney animation seems to be humming along really well ever since he came over... As much as I've criticized him in the last few years for Cars 2 and losing Chris Sanders - I have to admit Pixar as a studio ran relatively smoothly when it was under him exclusively. Maybe splitting duties between studios has really hurt the dynamic there.Just a sad turn of events. But it's part of growing pains.
AniNate
If Newt counts, Gary Rydstrom went on to do one of their Toy Story shorts, but recently left for Lucasfilm. Though I think he was always kind of a journeyman. Edited August 30, 2013 by tribefan695
Blankments
F*ck. Ugh. All my interest in this just disappeared. Not even joking, I probably won't see this in theaters now. Pixar needs to learn to stick with a director, regardless on where the film is at creatively, because you need a singular vision to pull through on an film like this. druv10
Not good news, even though Pixar has a history of this kind of behavior. I hope he stays with them but highly unlikely,
Empire
This isn't good news, but I don't think this is the doom of the film. It won't be the same without him, but I think it still has the potential to be great. With that said, I just hope he doesn't leave Pixar. Oh, and it is still my most looked forward to film next year. whoot
Brad Lewis was taken off Cars 2 and he still did promos for the movie - I thought he took the directing demotion the best out of any of the other directors... And STILL he left the studio.I would be shocked if Petersen stayed.
Sims
This Pixar tailspin is seriously depressing.
