DC vs Marvel battles aside which I find annoying personally Captain Marvel will help DC and others push for more female leads.

I'm hoping WW 1984 pushes forward and pushes DC to new heights as well.

I don't think so. Marvel movies killing the box office hasn't led DC movies to become bigger and more popular. The comic book movie audience is becoming ever more brand aware so Marvel movies only benefit other Marvel movies. The surge of Marvel popularity is not really leading DC to become more popular.

And what worse is the fact that DC movies stand only on their own feet. Wonder Woman being popular didn't help Justice League anything and Aquaman being popular didn't help Shazam anything. That is a core weakness of your universe that every movie just lives or dies on its own.

JL and BVS were intended to be for DC what the Avengers is for the MCU, making sure the unknown characters add value to the whole universe and that translates to fans having to watch those movies in order to follow the next episode of the chapter. But JL and BVS not only destroyed their own reputation, but are also hurting any chance the other movies in this shared universe have of perform well in the box office.

It's kind of defeating what it was meant to do.

that's definitely not a good hold for Shazam after the weak weekdays. No way to spin it

With the weak appeal of Shazam i really don't understand why WB should move forward with a sequel here instead of making movies with a bigger box office potential like the Flash movie.

Shazam on his own is not popular enough to carry his own movie franchise I think using Shazam only makes sense if you put him in movies with other heroes as a comic relief character. Put Shazam with Superman and the appeal may widen somewhat but yet another movie in the same mold as the first one and it will come under 500M WW.

WW84 will outgross CM domestic

Someone will come in and say CM2 will outgross WW84. I don’t think CM2 will have a 50 million head start on WW84 though. And I don’t think WW84 will be as leggy as WW. I think that is what made the run so memorable and fun. Anyway, the fact that we can have a discussion about two female superheroes and their movies at this level is really great.

CM is showing some really nice late legs and I think that is exciting her fans on a weekly basis as well. I remember WW fans were so excited as it approached Spider-Man’s box office.

If WW84 is well reviewed and marketed properly, it will have a very nice run. I won’t attempt to make any preliminary predictions until I can get a feel for the movie. Maybe when we see a trailer.

Yeah that is a core weakness of the DCEU compared to the MCU. The Marvel universe helps every movie to do better than it would have otherwise done. While DC movies succeed sometimes DESPITE the universe. For Marvel the universe is a huge positive that elevates the box office potential for their movies. While for DC the universe is mostly sinking the box office rather than elevate it.

Scott Mendelson calling 22.7m for Shazam's 2nd weekend.

It wasn’t a great Friday for holdovers. Shazam! will easily top the weekend for the second frame in a row, but its hold was merely adequate for the genre. The well-reviewed and well-received DC Films flick earned $6.365 million on Friday, a 69% drop from its $20.5 million Friday gross. That positions the film for a $22.7 million Fri-Sun frame, a drop of 58% from the $53.5 million debut but a drop of 61% from the whole $56.8 million debut (counting $3.3 million in sneak previews). I’m inclined to count the whole thing since most folks who showed up for a sneak preview would have otherwise shown up on opening weekend
