Looks like a new Lionsgate comedy has been dated for October 11th.

There's not much known about the film, but the film will star Adam DeVine, Alexandra Shipp, Michael Peña, Justin Hartley, Wanda Sykes, Ron Funches, Charlyene Yi, and Rose Byrne as the voice of an A.I. that DeVine's character falls in love with.

It seems like Her with a comedy flair.

Thanks @SLAM!! You're one of the best on here about starting threads about new/small/obscure films on the schedule.

I really liked Her. Maybe I'm a weirdo but I dug the concept, of how a person's emotions could truly be manipulated by an AI. If an AI with a beautiful voice is saying all the right things and making you feel good, I could see how one could literally fall for it.

I'm interested in this one.

The biggest mistake the filmmakers made was making Adam DeVine the lead. His face is too punchable for anyone to think he's charismatic and likable, so why make him have the majority of screen time? Especially since Bad Moms actually had talented and likable leading actors, you would think these directors would know what they're doing.

I haven't been this confused as to why someone continues to get a seemingly endless line of high profile work since that mercifully brief moment Hollywood tried and failed to make Dane Cook a thing.

A Sad Farewell to CBS Films

Quote

CBS Films will go out with a whimper: “Jexi” stars Adam DeVine in a comedy about a young man obsessed with his phone. It will likely take in less than $5 million. Directed by Jon Lucas and Scott Moore (“Bad Moms”), it’s expected to be the distributor’s last theatrical feature as corporate owner CBS transitions to streaming.

CBS Films had a lot going for it. It mostly made original films including “Last Vegas,” “Woman in Black,” and recently “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark,” as well as specialized releases “Inside Llewellyn Davis” and “At Eternity’s End.”

I saw it tonight while waiting for the late Gemini Man in 3D HFR.

I found it rather charming and funny, and I didn’t want to punch Devine once.

I liked it as well....I liked Wanda Sykes for the comedy relief.  She always makes me laugh.

Glad you liked it. Do you think the poor box office is due to lack of marketing? Or, despite you liking it, is the film bad enough to justify the box office? Personally I barely saw anything about this leading up to release. Nadda. Clearly a dump by Lionsgate.
