Kind of a meh opening for Red Sparrow. Black Panther is doing great. The Greatest Showman has insane legs, might have done much better if there wasn't massive amounts of snow at the weekend. Sad that Game Night couldn't open higher.
UserHN
I'm expecting huge numbers in the UK for Disney's Christopher Robin and Mary Poppins Returns. Both are set in the UK with predominantly British actors. I expect nostalgia will also be a huge factor.

Avatree
I hadn't actually realised this was scheduled for a Friday release originally, assumed it was Thursday already. Edited March 8, 2018 by Treeing Me Apart

Avatree
on a side note, I'm trying to book tickets for Cineworld IMAX movies this Saturday for their "IMAX fest" and it says 'the number of tickets available is less than what you require'. Have these really all sold out? I thought cineworld greyed out the time on their schedule when it sells out... anyone know? @SchumacherFTW

Plus that's why I booked my seats as soon as they were available lol

This year's line up wasn't that great, compared to couple years ago when they had Jurassic World, Martian and other good movies. I think the Pooh film will be hard pushed to do a third of what Paddington did.
commendable
Question: How do spy movies other than bond fare in UK? I know skyfall is their highest grossing movie so im wondering if they tune out anything else

Oh, so you mean to say that Christopher Robin won't get excellent reviews just because the 2 Paddington movies had fantastic reviews? I don't even see the direct correlation. It's like saying that a superhero film won't get stellar reviews just because another superhero film got fantastic reviews.

Not predicting it’s reviews, but I don’t know how you can watch the trailer and not get Paddington vibes. Scarily similar.
SchumacherFTW
Christopher Robin could easily be as big as Paddington, if not bigger if the quality is up to scratch. Paddington was almost lost on modern children until they released the first film, whereas virtually everyone in the country has grown up with Pooh at some point. Scarily similar. I think that would be a positive and not a negative? The goodwill from Paddington could make people more likely to check out a similar movie. It wouldn't be seen as a rip-off or copycat since the source material of Winnie the Pooh predates Paddington, not to mention both are from esteemed English authors. I don't see a reason why audiences won't connect just as well with this film as Paddington- both have thrived separately on their own merits despite being very similar (small anthropomorphic bears living in England). We’ll see. But I don’t think this would have the style it does if Paddington wasn’t a critical darling and gigantic in the UK

It's got a good release with mid August, weird that Disney seem to not care about Ant-Man and the Wasp as it's getting released August 3rd, a good month after the US. Incredibles 2 is getting the usual Pixar July slot Edited March 11, 2018 by Jonwo
