UKBoxOffice
Despicable Me 4 holds at No.1 in its second weekend, down 45% from opening to add £4.9m. It has £17.4m to date going into the main school holiday period across England & Wales. At the same point of release, 2017’s Despicable Me 3 was slightly ahead at £19.6m, while 2022’s Minions: The Rise Of Gru had achieved £18.4m. New release Twisters opens at No.2, with £3.1m across 3 days and £4.1m including Weds/Thurs. This is on a par with Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes and The Fall Guy. In our PostTrak exit poll, Twisters scored 4 stars among General & Parents audiences and 4.5 stars among Kids (aged 6-12). The audience was well-distributed across all segments, pulling in a diverse mix by gender, age and frequency. 53% of the General & Parents group would Definitely Recommend the film to friends, and 76% of Kids would tell friends they must see it right away. The original instalment Twister grossed £15.0m in July 1996 and won Academy Awards for Visual Effects and Sound Mixing. Inside Out 2 is at No.3 in its sixth weekend, adding £1.5m for total to date of £47.2m. Longlegs drops one place to No.4, down just 5% with £1.3m. It has £3.9m to date and is second only to A Quiet Place: Day One in the 2024 horror chart. A Quiet Place: Day One also drops one place this week, now at No.5 with £447k. Michael Sarnoski’s prequel has passed £9m, chasing Part II’s £11.7m lifetime. Fly Me To The Moon is at No.6 with £190k, down 58% from its opening last week. Its total to date is £1.4m. The second-highest new release this week is Bad Newz at No.7. The Hindi love-triangle comedy opens with £165k. Bad Boys: Ride Or Die is at No.8, adding £140k in its seventh weekend for a total to date of £11.8m. Music documentary blur: To The End opens at No.9 with £139k, mostly from Friday shows. Including previews it has £146k and will appear at No.8 in the official chart. Further shows are scheduled for Wednesday 24th July and their concert film Live At Wembley Stadium will be in cinemas in September. NT Live reissued 2019’s crowd-pleaser Present Laughter last Thursday, taking £476k on opening day and a further £107k this weekend to rank at No.10. The Andrew Scott play has £583k to date, in addition to its 2019 gross of £1.3m. The overall box office is down 15% from last weekend, and down 64% on the equivalent weekend in 2023 when Barbenheimer boosted the market to over £35m. Barbie led with £18.4m, Oppenheimer took £10.7m in second place. Year-to-date, 2024 has passed £500m and is now running 12% behind the same period in 2023. This week we have Deadpool & Wolverine (Disney) opening on Thursday 25th July. 4
Krissykins
For some perspective and remembering just how huge Barbie was, it’s opening weekend was more than Despicable Me 4 has made in 10 days. £18.4m is crazy. And then a 5.2x multiplier to become the 6th biggest film of all time.

With DM4, Twisters, IO2 and Longlegs likely to hold well could have a similar weekend as 2016's Deadpool which had strong opening also for Alvin £4.3m and Zoolander 2 opening £2.1m and holdovers Dads Army and Goosebumps both taking £1m+? US presales up to $35m how are UK presales? Looking back at the comments on here about Deadpool having all shows sold out at Westfield I look at Deadpool 3 and 8.15pm Thurs/Fri is almost full but many screenings aren't close to a quarter sold.. After presales have been open for 8 weeks would expect sellouts by now? But not even at BFI IMAX? Edited July 23 by GreenbackBoogie
