That's because the weather is a lot worse than yesterday!

The weather looks like absolute shit over the next week again, it’s embarrassing that this can even be considered summer.

Cinemas are going to be raking it in, expecting some great weekdays again.

TBF June was hot and given what's happened elsewhere, I think we shouldn't be complaining about a bit of wet weather.

The weather does look like it picks up again from the second week of August.

I'm curious to see Sound of Freedom does in the UK, I get it has become a huge hit domestically but releasing on the same day as The Equalizer 3 seems like a bad move.

Guessing they aren’t expecting much from it overseas. Hopefully Denzel obliterates it.

Weekend

Barbie £13.22m (-29%)

Oppenheimer £8.22m (-25%)

MI7 £1.83m (-37%)

Elemental £1.17m (-18%)

Talk To Me £562

Probably said this about 20 times now, but insane! Barbie and Oppenheimer must have stayed more or less flat or had tiny decreases on Sunday?

Great for holdovers too.

Wonder if Barbie can make another £10m on weekdays this week.

I genuinely have no idea how high Barbie could go. £70m must be the floor... And seriously feels like it's making a run for top 10 all time.

Oppy is basically level pegging with Dunk after it's 2nd weekend. Should hold a bit better over coming weekends than Dunkirk did so £55m feels like a good bet.

Good to also see some other milestones. MI7 is past £20m and on its way to a franchise best total. Across the Spidverse has also passed the £30m mark and is still making decent money more than 2 months after release. Indiana Jones, although down on its predecessor will pass the £20m mark very soon. Hopefully Elemental can also leg it past £20m with 4 more weeks still of school holidays.

Insidious 5 also just became the highest grosser of the franchise too.

This has been a very solid summer even without Barbenheimer. There have been flops but TBH you can't expect every film to be a hit but for cinemas, they've had a steady supply even though the volume is still below pre Covid.

It's been fun reading the articles about how much food and beverages have been sold in cinemas. Ticket sales is one thing but the revenue from F&B must be the strongest in quite some time.
