Most likely won't hear from them when televised precursors announce. @titanic2187 No because big awards don't know them either. they are closer to us than to highbrow critics. I happened to learn about them thanks to Sandler win. Edited December 4, 2019 by Valonqar

lorddemaxus
OMG, I'm so happy that the Safdie brothers won something. Makes sense though considering that it is probably the most New York City film of the year.

filmlover
Uncut Gems is probably gonna end up being more of a critics thing than an awards thing but I'm just glad to see Adam Sandler in a movie that's getting critical acclaim and reminding everyone he can be a very good actor when he actually tries. Can't wait to see it. Edited December 4, 2019 by filmlover
titanic2187
NYFCC has been disagree with Oscar for the best picture winner in the past 7 years, Irishman win could means something here.

filmlover
Ya know if The Irishman ends up the frontrunner I could see a scenario in which De Niro becomes the Best Actor frontrunner over Driver or Phoenix. Don't think it's much of a stretch to say it's easily his best performance in over 20 years.
RealLyre
Bong missing the directors support from critics that Cuaron had last year is disappointing. I can see the DGA going to Tarantino or Scorsese, same for the Academy and the globes.

Bong is relatively new to USA and so to Korean language film, unlike Cauron was Oscar director winner already by that point. May taking longer to build that buzz
