2019 Critics/Guild Awards Thread

I had Annette Benning down for a Supporting Actress nom. I'm thinking Kathy Bates takes that spot instead. Marriage Story was weaker than expected here. Seriously didn't expect Sandler to win over Driver (but I'm happy with it). I'm hoping Sandler also wins the NYCC award too.

Honestly it doesn't change much but some movies could be gaining momentum here. Zellweger is the clear frontrunner for the Actress win tho.

apparently if a film wins best foreign film it can't be in the top 10/top 5 lists. roma was in the top 10 last year because cold war won best foreign film so parasite wasn't snubbed.

I think getting into the top is more impressive though because of how rare it is for a foreign film. Roma getting into the top 10 last year was a big win for it. Parasite already has enough momentum for a BP mom though so this shouldn't be a very big deal.

the NBR in general is the opposite of a big deal when it comes to oscar predictions tbh. which is fine it's better that every award isn't a bellwether but it'd be dumb to change any predictions based on this.

so that makes it ineligible for director/screenplay/best film as well? their choices were very lame.

NBR/Oscar correlation for its top 10 vs eventual best picture nom at oscar.

2010 - 7/10

2011- 5/9

2012 - 7/9 (Amour won Best foreign film)

2013 - 5/9

2014 - 4/8

2015 - 5/8

2016 - 7/9

2017 - 6/9

2018- 4/8

don't think NBR changes much for the best picture line up. Joker will pick up momentum and buzz in the globes (like BR last year).

though I'm more inclined to add Ford v Ferrari.

I haven't seen the Irishman (and probably never will) but I'm pretty sure Parasite is miles better, so no they shouldn't have.

then idk what you're complaining about! sorry your abstract idea of the irishman isn't as good as parasite lol.

Last year Oscar race was one of the most suspenseful in years with now clear front runner and almost every guild and critics group  went with different direction

i think best actress and supporting actor we'll see renee and brad sweeps but everything else seems kinda open right now. with best picture irishman/parasite/marriage story could all three get a bunch of critics wins there seems to be an equal-ish amount of passion for all of them.
