WB is so incompetent. Why lift the embargo one day before the first fan screenings? Reviews would have helped with the hype.

Reviews will still help the hype.

This movie will have a punch of reactions + reviews + fan screenings all at the same time. Social media will talk endlessly about this movie the whole week right before the release, it will help.

The hype for Batman is not bigger than BvS, that had crossover hook. It had 29m previews which this one isn't gonna match even with the early screenings.

This. BvS hype was easily the highest ever for a DC movie and it did that much. Not to forget The Trinity being on live action for the first time. The Batman isn't even close to it.

BVS doesn't come close TDKR hype, though BATMAN is still the GOAT among non-Endgame comic book films.

It's true.

Marvel films get all the good releases dates, they're full of color, tongue-in-cheek humor, etc; there is always non-stop action. It is a formula and it is highly commercial. Meanwhile, Zack Snyder tried to have Clark Kent look/act like RPats Twilight character. This was made painfully obvious by the dramatic improvement different directors brought to Wonder Woman 1 and Aquabro.

I'd love see JJ Abrams direct draft 2 of his old FLYBY script. Superman origin meets ID4/War of the Worlds epic.  Get gen Z heartthrob Jacob Elordi as Superman, a young gen z actress as Lois Lane, maybe Cillian Murphy as Luthor, try to lock in a big name, ala Brad Pitt, as Jor-el, open it over Christmas 2023 or a premier July release date in 2024. That would be HUGE.

5.9 imdb is not what I would call "fans love" and it didn't have any competition for weeks which helped its legs.

people showing up to the theaters to watch a movie after its OW is a better sign of whether they liked it than imdb which we know gets bombed all the time, i've seen movies with great audience scores/cinemascore that have shitty legs so clearly the general public didn't care about it as much as more hardcore movie fans did

Suicide Squad 2 with much better reviews nosedived in box office...

And Suicide Squad had a pretty sharp second weeked drop, it had okay multiplier because it had no competition weeks ahead, it was a dead month.
