Seeing Bones and All, The Menu, and She Said this weekend.

 

Hopefully Glass Onion, All the Beauty and the Bloodshed, The Son next weekend (and that's not including The Inspection, EO, Strange World which I also want to see.. and then White Noise again after NYFF). Crazy 2 weeks. Already saw Fabelmans and BP. Couldn't imagine if Creed 3 didn't move. 

 

Spirited and Disenchanted should have went wide theatrical, too

My movie schedule is crazy the next few weeks too. The Menu/She Said this weekend, The Fabelmans/Devotion/Strange World over Thanksgiving, Bones and All/Violent Night (lol probably) on the post-Thanksgiving weekend. 'Tis the season!

It's a tough time to be a specialty title, even when you have reviews/early awards buzz on your side. The low grosses of movies like TAR and Banshees (which is already losing a lot of theaters this weekend) are likely what factored into the Women Talking move just now (that and also because they probably realized that it would've flopped as a wide release on Christmas given the difficult-to-sell subject matter).

Sure, but I think it speaks to how much of a failure the film is. It was supposed to be their big Oscar contender this year.

The Chosen Season 3, counted today at 11am EST for tomorrow:

NY (AMC Fresh Meadows 7): no showtimes
Miami (AMC Sunset Place 24): 47 (6 showtimes)
Grand Rapids (AMC Grand Rapids 18): 268 (8 showtimes)
Austin (AMC Lakeline 9): 93 (6 showtimes)
Tempe/Phoenix (AMC Centerpoint 11): no showtimes
San Francisco (AMC Metreon 16): no showtimes
LA (AMC Universal): 26 (2 showtimes)


Total tickets sold in 4 theaters: 434.

Comps: Christmas with the Chosen (1.2M true Friday) had on Friday for Friday 273 sold tickets = x1.59 = 1.9M for The Chosen with 1 day left. Which would mean The Chosen will ca. double the Friday number of Christmas with the Chosen.
But Christmas with the Chosen made 2.7M on its first day (Wednesday release) and now the Friday is the first day for The Chosen and not the third day. I can only guess how much this will help. So I wouldn't go lower than 3-4M for The Chosen on Friday.


She Said had today 102 sold tickets for today

and 75 sold tickets for Friday (on both days in 4 theaters).
Comps for Friday: Stillwater had 72 sold tickets in 6 theaters (no AMC Fresh Meadows in NY)

and The Last Duel had 124 sold tickets, also in 6 theaters.
So around 3M OW would be my guess.

Depressing. I remember when Christmas holidays at the movies was packed and exciting.

Old had 500

and The Invisible Man had 894 sold tickets.

And Fantasy Island (which had no Thursday previews) had in the same 6 theaters 473 sold tickets.
 

So from my comps it looks like it would reach double digits, maybe low to mid-teens.

I would not sleep on I Heard The Bells, seeing what The Chosen season 3 premiere seems to be making...it's a Dec 1 release and seems to only get 1 show right now around me for presales each day, but it's a wholesome  holiday story (which counters Violent Night spetacularly), so it probably can out earn half the specialty product this year b/c it should run well the whole month, especially in areas where the Chosen is also blowing up...

 

PS - It's a Fathom Event, so it's supposed to be a very limited engagement, but these have changed before...
