RthDeadWov
Previews and persales indicate that MJ1 will open at least as good as CF last year, meaning more than 1mil admissions for the weekend and about 1,2mil including previews. Might even get higher with walk-in business. Just Thu-sat MJ1 admits up 9% on CF

picores
I forgot about it! But still, is The Hobbit popular enough to do this? The Hobbit: $88m The Hobbit 2: $88m Catching Fire: $43m Yep, the third Hobbit seems a lock to win the year.
peludo
I forgot about it! But still, is The Hobbit popular enough to do this? Germany is still the biggest OS market for Hobbit. China can beat them this year but, so far, Germany leads.

peludo
OK guys, $100m for Hobbit 3 would be fantastic Sure, but I do not see it. Maybe the same amount than previous entries or even a bit lower given the drop in exchange rate. I would be fine with $80m.

el sid
Wow, did not know that the Hobbit movies made 89 and 88M in Germany! We had the same discussion on a german website (if the last Hobbit will top the others or not) and most said - like me - that they will see it because it is the last one. It seems that I'm always optimistic, but I would say the last Hobbit movie will get at least the same audience if not more. Interstellar managed a respectable hold, and QecqoafaBD climbed back to #6 after nearly dropping out of the Top10 last week - it's now pointed at 3,7mil admissions total, a number that should also be the goal for MJ1. Other openers? Wow, those are some poor numbers for the other openers ... I guess counterprogramming didn't work here.

ShouldIBeHere
COuld you see TH3 crossing between $90 Mio and $100 Mio in Germany, IndustriousAngel? I assume, exchange rates will be a problem... but DoS had $88 Mio with the competition of Frozen and Fuck ju Göthe?!
LexJoker
He has said before that he think it will just match the gross of the previous two movies. Probably could even go lower with the exchange rates.
IndustriousAngel
Yep, attendance might even be a little higher but in US$ it might be a little lower. And in fact, there's no reason to believe part 3 will increase - if you look at LotR in Germany+Austria, it was FotR > TTT > RotK. So, even the hope that it might increas is just a hope but has no numbers to back it presales are very good, especially the Hobbit triple-features on Dec 9th, but presales carry you only so far; here totals are much more dependent on legs than in the US. So, concusio: H3 over 100mil US$ in Germany seems impossible. In Austria+Germany combined, it's maybe possible, I'd say a 5% chance. The shorter running time might give it an edge (they can squeeze in one more show per day) and the movie might be more rewarding than parts 1 and 2.
