BO Germany/Austria: Dune first 2024 blockbuster (3mil admissions)

Recommended Posts

first estimates for Germany's weekend from insidekino.de:

#1: Avatar 2 - 1.175Mil admissions

#2: Hotzenplotz - 0.075Mil

well, at least Avatar2 is cornering the market ... not even family releases get any space to breathe. Apart from that, I was expecting a little more from the OW but this is a movie that should, like the first one, leg it beautifully through the holidays and into January, so definitely a winner.

@Aristis/ @IndustriousAngel can you have a look on this article? :)

it's what we're seeing elsewhere too, premium shows (IMAX, 4DX, Dolby Atmos ...) are selling way better than 2D. Still, I guess this is mainly OW and later on tickets will be cheaper.

As to what it means for Austria - 40.000 tickets OW for Cineplexx venues alone sounds good until you consider they have an about 50% market share in Austria. As mentioned, premium shows and evening shows are selling fine, but there's still much room in afternoon and even early evening shows. So, we'll see a massive OW of course, but not as big as No Time to Die  (to take the biggest post-covid opener).

I don't really know but I think Germany is the only country with a 4-day-weekend? Even Austria, which is serverd by the same distributors and mostly chains, has a 3-day-one.

I thought Australia and Russia had 4-day too, but I'm not sure.

Austria being 3-day is unfortunate as it makes comparing the two harder than it had to be.

At this point more countries have 4-days weekend.

All of LATAM
All of Middle East
Most of Europe + France & Belgium have 5 days
All of South East Asia & ANZ
