Revenant got the screens it deserves and accordingly went up from the opeining weekend, it has crossed 1mil admissions and is on its way to well over 2mil total (depending on Oscars, WOM, it might go >2,5mil; 3mil seem like a stretch atm but who knows)

SW7 had an ok hold, it has crossed 8mil and 9mil seem doable with some late legs.

Among openers, Creed did ok I'd say; 5th Wave and Big Short not so - neither seemed to generate any buzz, poor PTA for both.

Next weekend: The biggest opener will be "Bibi & Tina 3"; the young-girl centered german  franchise should be good for at least 250k admissions - part 1 and 2 both crossed 1mil total with ease and those movies are very reliable performers; with a bit more frontloading 300k might be doable. Other noteworthy openers: Point Break (don't see much demand here), Brooklyn and Anomalisa. Revenant should stay on top of the chart with another healthy number. otoh, I guess that even with a nice hold (fingers crossed), SW7 will drop to #3 behind B&T3.

Bibi & Tina already had 77k admissions in previews, more than double the amount part 2 had. It might actually have a decent chance to take the top spot next weekend.

previews may count towards "opening weekend record" but the nr.1 for the weekend is the one with most admissions Thu-Sun (see list above; "Gut zu Vögeln" had a >100k "opening weekend" but it's still only #10 with about 56k admissions). Or do you think it's so popular it can make it to 350k? It's possible but I don't think it probable.

I'm sorry, no Thursday estimates via insidekino.de (forum) today :(.
But according to the reports from the insidekino-forum it doesn't look too good for the many new releases (Bibi & Tina 3, Point Break, Ride Along 2, Daddy's Home, Brooklyn, Our Brand Is Crisis, Anomalisa, Valley Of Love...). With the exception of Bibi & Tina 3 none has much buzz and the winter weather doesn't help either.
So as IndustriousAngel said on Tuesday The Revenant with again around 100 copies more will threepeat easily and Bibi & Tina 3 will be the best newcomer. #2 should be Ride Along 2. Point Break and Daddy's Home are far behind. Obviously the pretty big advertising campaign for Point Break didn't work.

"Point Break" was a lost case from the start, at least in Germany ... this doesn't add anything to the original, and said original had, as far as I remember, a lot of media coverage too, and Reeves and Swayze, and still couldn't reach 1mil admissions in '91 (<700k in fact, that's just pitiful ... Jarmusch's '91 "Night on Earth" had more!)

wow, 1st weekend trend is online at insidekino and the race seems much closer than I expectet - Bibi&Tina3 has a super opening and might take #1 after all!

#1: Revenant - 350k admissions (-15%)

#2: B&T3 - 320-420k

#3: SW7 - 200k (-40%, I was hoping for better numbers)

#4: Ride Along - 120k (contains some preview numbers)

that's really insanely high for B&T3; add the nearly 80k it already has in previews and it might have a 500k opening - considering that B&T2 did 1,3mil total, and the usually good multipliers, this could mean a 40% plus or more from the last entry.

Revenant's number is good too, even if the PTA is now dropping (there was a 2nd expansion this week)

so far, the only european country where CREED succeeds is FRANCE. Number 1 last week and probably number 1 this Week.

Not everywhere even released yet. According to IMDb (where mistakes are happening and countries get forgotten too):

Spoiler
Hungary 21 January 2016
Netherlands 21 January 2016
Colombia 28 January 2016
Greece 28 January 2016
Peru 28 January 2016
Spain 29 January 2016
Mexico 29 January 2016
Venezuela 29 January 2016
Argentina 4 February 2016
Bolivia 4 February 2016
Republic of Macedonia 4 February 2016
Panama 4 February 2016
Uruguay 4 February 2016
Sweden 5 February 2016
Chile 18 February 2016
Hong Kong 25 February 2016

If you look into BOM's foreign per weekend details you'll see the count of tracked territories is growing only slowly. Better / more concentrated releases by the countries than in the past, but still not as focused on a similar release date than a big blockbuster nowadays tends to get.

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?page=intl&view=byweekend&id=creed.htm

A few of those countries have actual rather harsh conditions for a newly arrived movie, see e.g. Italy with it's extreme local blockbuster and a few other also interesting movies running there.Plus we do not know about quality of translation,... at least I haven't seen anything about it.

If you scroll down here

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/franchises/chart/?id=rocky.htm

till you see ww details, the movies never really made that much OS, so a movie without the same lead... might be a bit difficult to sell in nowadays times anyway (they do not list the OS of the earlier parts there!)

Yes, the French numbers are great :). And it's doing pretty ok in GB and Italy too despite the bad exchange rates.
Germany is really a disappointment but not so surprising. Creed had some TV-spots but by far not as much as e.g. The Hateful 8 had/has. Then Creed got almost no trailers in theaters (I asked some others which trailer they saw and if it was well liked and mostly they said there was just none) and even no posters in some theaters and that one week before the release. Plus no attendance of the stars which Rocky Balboa had, only around 350 copies, Rocky is no longer the central character...
At least it is very well liked by the people who already saw it.
Perhaps they report the Friday estimates this evening and it improves but with the icy weather/streets I fear the next trends will be worse (especially for movies that play stronger in the evening).

Edit: The Friday estimates look like this (at least better than it seemed yesterday for Creed and Daddy's Home):

New Releases:
Ride Along 2: 29.5k
Daddys Home: 14.5k
Point Break: 9k

Holdovers:
The Revenant: 110k (great, last week Friday 128k)
Star Wars: 40k (l.w.F. 66K)
Creed: 21k (l.w.F. 39k)
