BO Germany/Austria: Dune first 2024 blockbuster (3mil admissions)

Recommended Posts

Saturday estimates higher for everything, especially After (up to 375k, doesn't seem frontloaded), and QecqoaefaBD?  might even see a slight increase from OW - weather nastier than expected, and accordingly people "flock" to the movies (let's not hyperventilate, overall numbers are still low but at least better than expected!)

Seems to me that you only created this account to talk shit about Shazam

Nope, i can see you’ve looked at my profile and you should have notice that i’m a member since may 14, 2016. That’s before you became a member.

I am so way behind with local news. Totally missed the strike at varying Cinemaxx cinemas since ~ mid of March or even earlier.

Nearby is no Cinemaxx, the nearest to us is in the same city our favourite non-IMAX-cinema is also to find - probably one reason I missed that

Could cut into a few movies maybe,

Okay,

first, Hi, I am back.

This looks still rather awful. I need to admit that I was curious about After so I checked out the fanfiction on Wattpad and I can just say that the first chapter is well, no, just no.

while it's rather embarrassing to see After open that high, the cinemas really need strong movies and therefore that's not high enough.

Presales for Endgame in the nearest cinema:

Double Feature (Tue 20:30): 232 (out of 578 ->40%) (biggest screen)

Preview (Wed 00:01, English): 50 (out of 425 -> 11.8%)

Preview (Wed 00:01, German): 127 (out of 425 -> 29.9%)

total Preview: 409 (out of 1428 - 28.6%)

Wednesday (3 showings): 284 (out of 1325 -> 21.4%)

Thursday (4 Showings): 198 (out of 1750 -> 11.34%)

Friday (4 Showings): 287 (out of 1750 -> 16.4%)

Saturday (4 Showings): 211 (out of 1750 -> 12.1%)

Sunday (3 German, 1 English): 92 (out of 1647 -> 5.6%)

Total: 1481 (out of 9650 -> 15.3%)

On the one hand, I am impressed, that is really big, on the other hand, 4 showings on a Saturday?

(The cinema has 11 halls) that's like nothing and based on those numbers I'd say they will add some after Easter and when the movies open maybe one or two more for a total of 8-10 showings.

EDIT:

I don't have information about other movies as most movies are dead before the opening and I mean really dead.

TFA and TLJ are two movies that I wish I would have info, I am really interested if Endgame will get as many shows like those.

Right now I doubt it.

One the positive side:

I could find some information for presales of TLJ, but those were for christmas.

Around noon on the 22nd:

23: ~580 or so

24:156

25 00:15 or something like that:

25: 393

26: 401

27: 482

Which would paint a rather positive picture of Endgame, yeah this is after the second weekend for TLJ and all that and that was just 750k, but those weekdays were pretty strong.

I didn't write down how many shows it got, but I think something around 12-16 (and the 27 was a weekday and no public holiday), which means that probably at least 4000 seats were free.

I don't know how full the shows were but for the main showing on the 27th (20:15, there were around 400 of 578 sold, that's a lot! more than normal)

Normally movies max out at 10 shows (and that's Opening day with previews)

Those 3/4 showings are what movies normally get (like Shazam etc.).

After passion actually has 5 showing on a weekday (okay, it's Tuesday and Easter week) but that's quite a lot.

I checked only the previews of a big cinema. OV means original version, no OV means dubbed

The amount of OV I am not sure I have ever seen before, but its the first time I did a count in that way, so... who knows.

for all count: ignoring additional seats for handicapped

sold out of / max possible seats

Preview 23:59

3D                        264/355

ATMOS 3D          527/833

3D OV                  324/443

3D OV                  167/241                            sum 3D OV =             624/904

3D OV                  133/220

Double feature with A IW, starts around 21:00:

3D OV                  287/334

ATMOS 3D          315/372

A good opener and excellent holds resp. increases - overall a satisfying weekend albeit without anything blockbustery.

Next weekend: No really big openers - Der Fall Collini  might surprise but I doubt it, the theme is too serious. And The Curse of La Llorona enters a market that's already been served in the past weeks. Weather is supposed to be fine on Easter weekend so there should be hard drops despite no big new competitors. The Kid Who Would Be King is an unknown to me, but it's exactly the type of movie that gets hit by fine weather so I don't expect a surprise here either.

Captain Marvel really showed some great legs in Germany, prior to the release I wouldn't have thought it could reach 2M. Clearly the biggest overperformer of the year so far.

Next WE will be awfull probably with the weather being sunny and warm over easter. Maybe next week weather can be worse for AEG... The success of CM is a good sign though, AIW made 1,9x BP. If AEG does 1,9x CM (maybe around 2,05M) it'd do 3,9M... That would be a great result if it happened B)
