Good holds, especially for family releases, but weak openers (with the possible exception of Korean thriller Heojil Kyolshim which had the best PTA among openers). Avatar 2 continues its run to 10mil total. But the story this weekend were family movies: With school holidays now approaching (or already in power), Die Schule der magischen Tiere 2 might leg it to 3mil, unbelievable! Die drei ??? is also already a big success, a total somewhere around 1,5mil seems doable and if WOM catches on, maybe more. And Puss in Boots 2 is already a lock for 2mil total but should end with a total well over that number!

In Austria, Avatar 2 was in front with similar numbers; Puss #2 with nearly 20k - the "Golden Ticket" for 300k total is locked; Die drei ??? on #3 also with a healthy increase but not on Germany's level. Both "big" openers did better in Austria, we had 5 releases >10k admissions! And #6, domestic hit Der Fuchs, not far behind that number - Austria continues to outperform Germany.

Next weekend: Well, finally a really interesting weekend with a lot of potential 6-digit-weekends:

- there's the re-release of Titanic

- there's the 3rd Magic Mike movie

- there's Knock at the Cabin

- and an additional family CGI movie, Tha Amazing Maurice

Which means screens are at a premium this week, but generally, business should see a nice uptick. I guess Avatar2 will stay on top, and probably Die drei ??? on #2, but behind that, we'll see a lot of change in next week's chart!

What are your predictions for Titanic in Germany ? In France, I have literally no idea, there is 0 hype and I see nothing nowhere but it's Titanic during valentine's day so I don't know

the 4DX shows are selling out, but the 3D shows on the biggest screen have very very low presales ... going by my cinema, I'd say a 50k max OW for Germany. With it being obviously a great choice vor Valentine's, it might get great weekdays after, but overall, not that big a splash.

Agree with you - maybe a bit above 50k.

 

I am kinda surprised how badly Magic Mike seems to be doing - I know that they aren't big movies, but I kinda was expecting more - seems like it will stay below 200k (expected a bit above and a chance at beating Avatar 2). But seems like Avatar 2 will get a ninth week on top.

 

Ant-Man and the wasp opened with 198k - So the new one will open with 200k? (Maybe more) and most likely will get #1 (different to the last which opened behind Mamma Mia 2 and Hotel Transylvania 3).

Beating Untouchables with 9,1 M admits as the biggest hit in Germany since Avatar in 2010, i think is a mega success, considering how changed habits in the last 10 years with digital platforms.
Of course would be very nice this magic number of 10 M, but for me is a super success for A2 being over 7 M admits, so if goes to 9.5- 9.8 is anyway something very very big.

I didn't think Magic Mike would be this Ladies night heavy (I know that the previous were really ladies night heavy to but xxl at least only did 30 % during Previews, this would mean 40% during previews).

The Avatar, ??? and PiB drops are all pretty ugly. Expect the bad drops next weekend.

It should. After this weekend it's nearing 1.08m, so hopefully- 24k + 17k + 12k + 8K + 5k will drag it past 1.135m~
