Went back to the old insidekino board to check what happened in 2011. These are only the estimates though, not the final numbers. If Rogue One would behave somewhat similarly to those movies, it should be at least at around 3.5 million at the end of the holidays (provided the holiday situation hasn't changed between 2011/12 and this time), which in this case lasts at least in some states to the third weekend. Most of the movies saw another 500k in admissions, though they probably deal with lower numbers over the timeframe, so Rogue One might get a bit more than that. I'd say it could reach 4.5m, but I'm not particularly good when it comes to judging this when the holidays are in play ;)

Sherlock Holmes 2:

christmas weekend: 290k (255k without previews)

following weekdays: 395k

new years weekend: 335k (total = 1m)

following weekdays: 235k

third weekend: 335k (total = 1.57m)

Finished with 2.046m

Puss in Boots (3rd weekend on christmas):

christmas weekend: 190k

following weekdays: ?

new years weekend: 285k (total = 2.085m)

following weekdays: 230k

third weekend: 280k (total = 2.595m)

Finished with 3.194m

Rubbeldiekatz (2nd weekend):

christmas weekend: 160k

following weekdays: ?

new years weekend: 240k (total = 1.09m)

following weekdays: 210k

third weekend: 280k (total = 1.58m)

Finished with 2.1m

MI: Phantom Protocol (2nd weekend):

christmas weekend: 150k

following weekdays: ?

new years weekend: 175k (total = 1.065m)

following weekdays: 115k

third weekend: 175k (total = 1.355m)

Finished with 1.584m

Alvin & the Chipmunks 3 (opening weekend):

hristmas weekend: 175k (140k without previews)

following weekdays: ?

new years weekend: 195k

following weekdays: ?

third weekend: 235k (total = 1.075m)

The weekdays with a ? combine for about 470k, no idea how they are split though

Finished with 1.782m

A terrible weekend thanks to 24th on a Saturday, but even in that context Moana's number has to be a severe disappointment; it didn't even match Sing's 3rd weekend. But there were some silver linings, too: Domestic comedies (Vier gegen die Bank with >60k on a single day) and Fantastic Beasts' drop.

Next weekend: With Assasin's Creed, there's only one wide opener - with questionable mass appeal. So holdovers should do fine, especially Vier gegen die Bank will be interesting to follow in ist first full wekend.

I think that is supposed to be a "whole week" trend, so these weekdays plus the following weekend. Otherwise it wouldn't fit the numbers for the weekdays mentioned earlier. On the other hand, it doesn't really fit to those numbers either. Mhm, weird.

Yes, I just thought about it and I guess you're right. Just for comparison, TFA holds the midweek (Mo-Wed) record with 1,27M admissions last year.

This trend shows the total of this whole week. Meaning it includes the last weekend. So the number for Rogue One are 450k(THU-SUN)+590k(MON-WED)=1,040k(whole week).s

Mit WILLKOMMEN BEI DEN HARTMANNS ist zum 4. Mal in 5 Jahren ein Film mit Elyas M'Barek der erfolgreichste deutsche Film des Jahres

As you speak about MarkG... @George Parr

= translates to ~

With 'Welcome by the Hartmanns' is for the 4th time in 5 years a film with Elyas M'Barek the most successful German film of the year

edit: with this browser the empty areas are strangely huge I use it, as it is the one I can quote for certain countries the charts.

So folks, the last Thursday estimates of the year:

New Releases:

Assassin's Creed: 122.5k (started in 429 theaters on Tuesday, very mediocre reviews, Warcraft had better ones) - not bad, not bad

Holdovers:

Rogue One: 205k (actuals last Thursday: 150k)
Vier gegen die Bank: 93.5k (started Sunday with 90k admissions as most of you know now ;) and is playing in ca. 600 theaters, very mediocre reviews)
Sing: 19k evening only! (50k whole day)
Moana: 10k evening only! (40k whole day)
Hartmanns: 45.5k
FB: 40.5k (30k)
Allied: 21k (11k)
Nocturnal Animals: 8k (6.5k)

Very nice numbers all around if it holds.
Happy New Year to everyone!

Seems like there will be great holds :) Maybe this time it'll be joy to see the trend.

But didn't start VgdB with 63.198 last Sunday?

Which multipler can the movies have from Thursday with New Year affecting it on Saturday/Sunday?
