10 The Comeback Trail 118.000 118.000

A surprisingly good weekend for the holdovers. Encanto remained mostly flat and Eternals is only R$4M behing F9, it should enjoy some short momments at 1st place for the year before Spidey comes. Resident Evil: WtRC had a similar opening to RE3, but a far cry from the R$20M+ from the RE5's opening.

Next weekend will release West Side Story, Nine Days, Monster Family 2 and the iMax release of The Matrix. Oh and Baba Yaga got delayed again.

Seems spidey has a chance to beat EG to become the highest grossing film in Brazil

Maybe in local currency but not USD. I believe EG did about R$340M for $85M USD while today that same amount for USD would be R$484M.

So I’d say the target should be about $60M USD.

It truly sucks that the price of the brazilian currency is so bad this year. Now whatever record Spidey breaks it is doomed to look less impressive than it should.

Due to the sold-out and almost-sold-out screenings for Spider, this past week cinemas have been adding more screenings for pre-sales. The wednesday release was going to start at 08:00PM, now sections at 07:00PM are up. Also some cinemas that were only taking pre-orders in person are opening up to order online as well, like some cinemas from Cinépolis.

Sorry for not having more hard numbers to share besides the ones I already did. I know other threads are being more generous with data. If more comes up about No Way Home I'll try to post it right away.

Industry expectations for No Way Home tell us that in the month of december (15 days) the movie will sell 8 million tickets - around R$145M in box office.

Of course those are expectations, things can change for better or worse so don't take it to heart. For comparison, the last two movies opened to around R$30M (1.7M tickets). Endgame's opening weekend was at R$102M, 5.5M tickets.

Box office 10-12 december

Movie Box Office (R$)             Total (R$)
1 Encanto 2.967.000 14.248.000
2 Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone 1.874.000 30.778.000
3 Eternals 1.803.000 70.158.000
4 House of Gucci 1.255.000 -
5 Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City 1.022.000 -
6

The Ice Road

688.000 -
7 Clifford: Code Veronica 635.000 -
8 Ghostbusters Afterlife 421.000 -
9 West Side Story 343.000 -
10 King Richards 257.000 -

There you go. Very last weekend before NWH arrives in two days to shake things up, and probably for that the box office was the lowest in the last two months. Harry Potter got a second screening on sunday and again had the best screening average of all the movies.. It also managed to push the original movie's total above R$30M and got Sorcerer's Stone on this year's top 20. Encanto is now the biggest animated movie of the year (unless you want to count Space Jam) and Eternals is still in 2nd place of the year, only R$1M behind F9. West Side Story bombed.

(PS.: I'll update the totals from the movies when they report later today. I got the first 3 because they are the only ones in the year's top 20)

No Way Home opened last night with R$14.5M, biggest wednesday release of all time. If this legs out like Venom: LTBC, it would mean an 5-day opening of R$72.5M+, making this immediately the highest grossing movie of the year. However, WoM is incredible strong, way better than Venom, so keep that in mind.

In the top 3 biggest openings of all time, we have Endgame with R$102M, The Lion King remake with R$68.6M and Infinity War with R$65.5M (all 4-day). It will be fun to watch if NWH will be able to leg out to that list.
