Insane number for the christmas day. Also it just falls off the cliff on 26th. Look at the pace over past 8 days for both the days. I think it hits double digit on christmas and then a big drop. Of course ATP is low as it does not seem to have PLF.

Streaming would probably be best. That said Katy Perry's concert movie is in the top 5 of all time and debuted with 7M. Do y'all think if she did hypothetically release it in theaters it could do that much?  It might seem small but just as long as it profit and it doesn't cost a lot who cares besides stan twitter lol. 

 

Also I feel like theater releases help streaming numbers 

 

Edit: Also Beyonce just came off a huge record-breaking tour. Chromatica Ball came out well over a year ago and probably much older by the time it actually releases, so it will have less hype

I also don't think Gaga would be able to pull these Beyoncé numbers (I won't even mention Taylor because she's an anomaly), but considering the AMC CEO already said they intend to release more concert films, Gaga definitely comes to mind as she basically has a concert already filmed waiting for release and has a history with Hollywood already (A Star Is Born, House of Gucci and soon Joker 2). For a weekend affair, her fans could pull some nice numbers.

She was one of the people I thought too and I mentioned it during Taylor's concert thread. I also the Weeknd doing something similar. I think he's also planning a tour documentary supposedly. He, Bad Bunny, and Gaga are the best bet IMO. I can't think of anyone else. Drake has had a very good year but he IMO relies heavily on general audiences rather than having a dedicated fanbase, while Gaga has a dedicated fanbase that is needed for a tour concert movie theater release to do well since these movies have considerably less walkaups than other movies 

 

I can see her doing maybe 7M-10M OW

Today’s odd occurance: I’ve never seen my local Cinemark add a movie on its opening weekend, but it just happened. Months ago, I added Godzilla Minus One to my watchlist on the app and it pinged me with a notification tix were on sale a few weeks ago. Awesome…except not at the theater 5 minutes from my house. No, it was showing at two other cinemarks, one an hours’ drive east and another an hours’ drive west. Insert sad trombone sound here.

 

Fortunately the movie was showing at an Emagine about 15 minutes away, and that’s where I and my family eventually went today. I did check my cinemark app Thursday just in case they had added it at my local one, but no. But I checked just now and hey presto! Five shows at my local cinemark! Too late, but just thought I would mention it. Never seen such a late add before.

FWIW my Emagine showing today was sold out, the next one only had a handful of seats left, the third show today has a dozen seats left and the last show is about a third sold.

People underestimate just how popular this is. I used to teach Lang & Lit at a famous Bilingual school in Medellin (Colombia) and TCP was required reading for all our Diploma Programme students. We used The Color Purple to teach southern African American dialogue. So it’s a popular book and film with many generations.

I think Gaga would pull similar numbers as Beyonce. Her fanbase is rabid too even if she isnt at her peak anymore. They come out to support her as evidenced by A Star is Born and House of Gucci.

Cineplex advance showtime update

 

Still no advance tickets for anything over Christmas. No Aquaman, Migration or Color Purple.

 

The only films up for pre-sales are Wonka, and a couple of theatres have Poor Things up for sale.

 

The Boy and the Heron has Thursday tickets up for sale, but just part of the regular Thursday programming. Friday and beyond will go up on Tuesday.

 

But that's literally it. I'm still not sure if this is just a tactic to be non committal during a Christmas season where it's unclear what the demand for each film will be, or maybe just moving away from advance sales in general.

On the Gaga convo… it would depend on where she’s at during her next tour/when the concert film would likely come out. If Joker is huge for her, including the music, and she leverages that straight into another hit album era, then I think that concert film would be huge at the box office. If she put it out right now or something, yeah less than Renaissance numbers for sure.
