SPECTRE | 11/6/15 | Final Trailer on Page 126! | Twitter reactions coming in, STID 2.0?

A lot of Skyfall's success came down to its pitch perfect marketing. It's hard to say exactly what it did right, but it made the movie feel like much more of an event than previous entries. The whole franchise has lived and died on its advertising campaigns so this will have to work hard to keep that must-see momentum. Waltz's casting will help - there aren't many actors with the larger than life presence of Bardem but he's certainly one of them.

Skyfall didn't double Bond's recent fanbase in the US.  It was a sizable jump but about about a 50% jump in ticket sales for the Craig movies and about 35% higher than the last Brosnan. That jump though is far from the highest, tickets almost tripled from License To Kill and Goldeneye though LTK was a nadir for the series in the U.S.  But that base level has been maintained give or take a few million tickets until the Skyfall jump.

I do think though there will be a dip from Skyfall since that was the perfect storm of 50th Anniversary, Olympics, a 4 year gap, Adele and early great reviews. Of those conditions only the early reviews are repeatable - though since Bond opens again early in the UK I expect the early buzz to be good again since it the UK press.

Well for someone that doesn't one me to reply you sure like to reply yourself. LOLOLOL. Well its the other posters that pend countless hours debating me, so wrong on that front. BTW your franchise bit was wrong also SPECTRE might not match Skyfall 100% but has goodwill that Skfall didn't have post QOS.

Go away unless you want to talk about something else.

Adele is to, get the right singer and right song. Who says a 3 year gap isn't as good?

I have no idea why Skyfall was as big as it was, it was a great film, just as good as Casino Royale, but the numbers it did in England was batshit insane, not sure the england phenomenon known as Skyfall can happen twice.

Doing 1b ww without 3d is still very hard to do even if os markets are expanding.

I will use the most overused word ever to describe Skyfall.....overrated. Its success was due to great marketing and being better than Quantum of Solice but dear God it was a misfire. A bland and underused villain, uneven action sequences and random plot conveniences. I still give it a 7/10 but it was nowhere near as good as Casino Royale.

Spectre will easily have the biggest OW of the franchise but I don't see much, if any, increase OS and I don't know if it can maintain $300M DOM without 3D.

The backlash against Skyfall has been almost as big as TDK's. Almost.

One thing I would say to those that didn't care for the movie: don't expect the next to be much different. The producers have only ever changed the tone of the franchise when they really had to, and their desperation to have Mendes back suggests they're in no mood to shake things up just yet.

I felt the same way now about Skyfall as I did when I first saw it. Good but noting I'd want to see again. The scene with the tube carriage alone pisses me off and less said about the giant CGI lizards the better.

Fair enough, if I'm being honest I'm not predicting 300m either simply because it's rare to have 2 good bond films in a row but I do think it's possible. One thing I will disagree with though, TDKR was most likely hitting around 500m without those shooting. Still would have fallen below TDK but I'd argue those shootings effected it's total gross by about 50m. Parents were refusing to let their kids see the film when that happened and I live in the UK. I imagine it was a similar case in the States.

If bond is a really good film though, 300m should happen.

I agree it is rare to have two good Bonds in a row, but the Bond team have upped their game and are very focused on creating quality products. Casino Royale really raised the bar very high, then Quantum of Solace may have fallen flat in terms of plot, but it was the nearest thing to an arthouse Bond movie, then Skyfall again raised the bar. So, I think the benchmark is Skyfall and Casino Royale. Quantum of Solace was a great effort, but you can see the producers are operating at a different level since Daniel Craig took on the role. Hopefully, they have learned the lessons of Quantum of Solace. With two out of the last three being among the best Bonds, I think there is a very good chance Spectre will again exceed expectations.

What backlash? Skyfall had great word-of-mouth. That is why its opening weekend was only 29% of total gross. It took nearly twice as much money as the two previous Bonds added together. Of course they wanted Mendes back because he made a movie that was loved by critics and audiences and made a ton of money.

He means online. Skyfall was the best thing since the bikini back in 2012, but now people on the interent think its smelly garbage for some reason.

Whether Skyfall was one of the best Bond films or not, I do find the 'backlash' by some against it baffling considering the Bond movie before it was like a giant wet fart that led to excrement slowly travelling down the side of your leg while you were watching it unfold in terror.

I haven't read any of the scripts but I have read a scene by scene breakdown of the movie dated sometime in October. Even with some of the scenes missing from the breakdown and no dialogue the film flows pretty well. The scale of this film is huge. The action set pieces are ambitious and intricate.

I love Skyfall and Spectre is a continuation of the relationships and themes explored in that film. Theme and tone are where Craig's Bond films succeed. They have something meaningful to say about Bond and the world he inhabits.
