Frozen seems to be tailor made for Japanese audiences with its two strong female protagonists. One is the the cute, plucky and adventurous type. The other is the reserved, beautiful, and super powered type. Both types are pretty popular in Japanese anime. :D

That and the character animation itself is somewhat anime-like. The characteristic large eyes and all around aesthetically-pleasing female features of Anna and Elsa surely helped contribute to the film's initial exposure. Of course those are only surface-level components but it couldn't have hurt in the attempt to draw Japanese crowds in.

I knew this would break out in Japan! :) Poor Tangled would've too but it just got incredibly unlucky with the earthquake.

Not to mention the story itself, about letting go of your suppressed feelings and be yourself, being persistent, optimistic and not giving up for something you believe, and sacrificing yourself for someone you love. Those things relate to Japanese so much. The sisters relationship also plays a big part, because family is very important in Asian culture.

That's why I thought Frozen would definitely be a contender for $100M. But since Japanese market is so unpredictable (I never thought Ted would be that big), I was more conservative in my predictions. Now, there's no need to do that. :D

Frozen 4th weekend 642,489 adm (-7%), 850.91M Yen (-3%).

Total 6,353,035 adm, 7.78b Yen.

I don't know the currency right now, but that's around $8.3m weekend and $75.5M total I think? A drop, but only 3% in gross, and only 7% in admission. Very nice!

11000 is huge. Thatll go up by 60-100%, 18-22k exceeding my expectations. 1.2m- 1.5m dayBack out 20% for last day of SB boost and its1m-1.2m monday multiplier is 7 for the midweek7-8.5m. Still need tomorrow and wed to confirm but this bodes well for a 14m+ week 5.Ponyos week 5 was a huge obon boost, 22m, but week 4 was an 18m summer week, TS3 week 5 was 14.5 in summer.14 is a huge week 5 outside of summer, unprecedented i assume, and I assume there is little competion for the next two weeks
