JAPAN BOX OFFICE | Demon Slayer breaks all time record for OW

Recommended Posts

Predictions for Godzilla in Japan? I say $50M around the same gross as TF3.

Corpse:

I think it'll have subdued opening weekend given the reception of the last Hollywood Godzilla film, but will develop good legs and finish with a nice total if the film is good.

I don't know if I'd expect more than ¥3-4 billion ($30/40 million), though. Godzilla was huge in the 50's and 60's (the franchise has a few films on the Top 50 Most-Attended Films of All-Time), but over time his popularity waned and films from the 80's and 90's all disappointed barely making more than ¥1 billion until the final film, Godzilla: Final Wars, was released in 2004 to disappointing numbers, too.

The new film has a prime release date in late July, in the middle of Summer Vacation and a couple weeks before Obon Week, so that'll help.

And Toho (which produced all 28 Japanese Godzilla films) is part of the production team for the new Godzilla, and they'll be handling the film's distribution in the market rather than Warner Bros. as well. This is a positive that will help the film out I believe, and retaining the original Godzilla's appearance (mostly) may help assure audiences it won't be an abomination like Hollywood's last effort.

7pm tohoplus 180 English singalongadm is 101375!damn! explode!

Seats are increased, but we have about 85% saturation. I think that Frozen haven't still reach its limit: with other seats and screen avaliable in morning and afternoon 150k in a day could be done.

no such thing as "burn off" with this movie. When more people see it, the demamd goes up!14 weeks to Obon!! Edited by mfantin65

100k already! Woohoo! So that means probably close to its OW in only one day?

Toho X is lower than OW (Corpse said 10,8M$ for sat/sun, so toho x 60,3). To compare it in right way, we must subtract singalong admissions. I think it need about 120k adm without singalong to match or surpass OW

the thing I dont get is that the sing along seats came from dubbed. So even though other theaters dont have SA, they should maintain their ratios. Mon - Wed tohox worked out fine, it matched screen daily report. Then we were 8% short again. When does official number come out for the weekend?

In past days S.A. admissions were always in growth. For what i know it played only in toho (i'm not sure). Past weekend toho was flat but 109 and kinezo down, and total was down, this weekend all are up, and total was up but less than toho up (47% vs 40%).

For officials, BOM usually update on wed, Boxoffice.com on thr, i don't know about japanese sources. I hope screendaily tell us something about first three days of this week on friday.

Those British really loved toys. And what's so attractive in IA4 for European? I thought it was the worst one in the series.
