That's great for Frozen! It might be underestimated again, like it has been most of the time, so there's a chance the actual will be over $6m. At least that's what I'm hoping. :P

I think out of the first 12 weekends 11 were underestimated and 1 was overestimated. Weekend #7 was estimated around 8.1m if I recall, and was actually closer to 7.6m. I remember that because with the original estimate that would have been the biggest 7th weekend ever, instead Frozen just barely missed it.

I'm not sure about opening weekend, I think that one was really close to estimates, the rest ranged from a little short to really short of actuals.

Last week was overestimated.

So finally there are some signs of slowing down.I think it will continue holding superbly until first weekend of July when it will have some tough Hollywood competition from Jolie and Cruise.

Apparently, next Saturday is Toho day so (for better or worse) our hopes can't die away just yet. And honestly, I don't see how either Jolie or Cruise could threaten Frozen. The only recent Jolie film to earn more than $25M in Japan was Mr and Mrs Smith. The only live-action fairytale to earn more than $25M was Alice in Wonderland (which had Johnny Depp). If anything, the Disney factor could help Maleficent get to $30M maybe, but higher than that? Not sure. EoT also doesn't seem to have any hope (Oblivion made $13M last year). Maybe Frozen will lose first place (to Maleficent) when these two are released but I don't see it having a bigger-than-normal drop.

I do agree with you!  Are you from Japan?

No, why do you ask? I just find interest in the Japanese box office cuz it's the third biggest market in the world and cuz many Disney films that I like do particularly well there. I also like that daily grosses are posted cuz relying exclusively on BOM for the past few years to post (supposedly) accurate overseas figures has been unbearable.

Because a lot of people said EoT, Maleficent, Godzilla will do big numbers in Japan which I doubt it.  Only Disney's animated film will do big numbers in Japan!

>Frozen as per usual has no problems remaining atop the box-office again, now claiming 13th-consecutive weeks there and it's unlikely to be dethroned the remainder of the month, too.

June is largely a dumping ground for new releases since it's between holidays and during busy school and workplace times.

>The estimates for all the openers except for Need for Speed (since it was a very wide release in 300+ theaters) are very much estimates. Anything that opens in less than 200 theaters can be difficult to gather estimates on, so the other four debuts could very much change. I think Pompeii will actually move ahead of Need for Speed, and I'm hoping The Grand Budapest Hotel did better than that. The ticket sales I saw for Saturday were pretty strong, but then again, it's only playing in 100 theaters and on small/medium screens, too, so I may have overpredicted it.
