03 (--) ¥191 million ($1.6 million), 0, ST MPD: Scientific Investigation Squad (Toho) NEW
04 (--) ¥170 million ($1.4 million), 0, ¥230 million ($1.9 million), Psycho-Pass: The Movie (Toho Video Division) NEW
05 (--) ¥103 million ($875,000), 0, ¥130 million ($1.1 million), Taken 3 (Fox) NEW

05 (03) ¥59 million ($495,000), -55%, ¥960 million ($8.2 million), The Vancouver Asahi (Toho) Week 4
07 (04) ¥58 million ($490,000), -45%, ¥1.57 billion ($13.4 million), Ao Haru Ride (Toho) Week 5
08 (05) ¥48 million ($405,000), -45%, ¥1.39 billion ($11.8 million), The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (Warner Bros.) Week 5
09 (08) ¥38 million ($320,000), -36%, ¥910 million ($7.7 million), Gone Girl (Fox) Week 5
10 (--) ¥36 million ($305,000), 0, ¥36 million ($305,000), Sin City: A Dame to Kill For (Gaga) NEW
11 (07) ¥29 million ($245,000), -54%, ¥1.81 billion ($15.4 million), The Last: Naruto the Movie (Toho) Week 6
12 (06) ¥27 million ($225,000), -62%, ¥1.82 billion ($15.5 million), Parasyte Part 1 (Toho) Week 7

>Big Hero 6 delivered a much better hold than most animated films post-New Year, which typically fall around 35/40%. If the estimate holds, it has a decent shot at ¥7.5/8.0 billion ($65/70 million).

>Yo-Kai Watch also had a slightly better than expected hold, and this is a possible sign that it won't completely fall apart now that school is back in session. Its weekday business will be dreadful, like any film that skews very young, but its weekends look like they'll stay strong. It still has a chance of reaching ¥7.5 billion ($65 million+).

>ST will need to be pretty underestimated, or a much higher than expected avg. ticket price to have made ¥200 million over the weekend. It's still a decent opening, though, and a total of ¥1 billion is possible.

>Psycho-Pass saw a bit of a hefty Sunday drop, but still performed very, very well. It's only playing on 103 screens, barely wide, so the estimate has a lot of room for error. There is also the chance that its avg. ticket price will be quite high, so maybe it'll come in above ST for the weekend.

>Taken 3 has the worst opening in the franchise, and if the estimate holds up, it's even lower than last year's Non-Stop.

>The big drops for Parasyte Part 1 and Naruto makes achieving the ¥2 billion milestone even more difficult.

Monday is a National Holiday (Coming of Age Day), so weekend results won't be available until Tuesday.

In terms of $ BH6 is closing the gap with Yokai relatively fast :)

Yeah, especially Yokai. 5.4 billion yen already. It could actually get to 7b. If it does, it will be harder for BH6 to pass Yokai's total, but BH6 will get 6b+ I think.

LOL it's already at 5.7b yen and will soon cross 6b. That's like what, 1.6b yen (around $14m) in 8 days? Seriously, I'm loving BH6's run so far. 8b yen total would be much better than I expected. With that number It could be the #1 movie of 2015. Although I hope there will be a 10b+ movie in 2015.

Taken 3 is disappointing. It looks like male-centric action movies are dying in Japan. I'm worried about TA2 and SW7.

Tuesday

         BH6     YoKai
Day 21   5.406   1.281
Vs LD  -88,02% -95,30%
Vs LW  -77,10% -93,52%

Toho Cume
  BH6       YoKai
  860.041   1.083.599

Total Admissions (estimate)
  BH6         YoKai
  4.566.818   5.634.715

Total Gross (estimate)
  BH6      YoKai
  $48,51   $54,40

My Toho multiplier for BH6 worked very well for admissions (+ 0,03%) and a bit low for gross in $ (-3,4%) so the new multi is 56,4X.

However, in day 25, for the first time in forever BH6 had four-chains admissions under (or near) 10000. (for "You know who"  this happened in day 91). Despite this I think BH6 is still able to 1)outpace Yokai gross within next two or three weeks and 2)reach 8 billion yen at the end of its run.

Weekend Ranking (01/10-11)

01 (01) Big Hero 6 (Disney) Week 4
02 (02) Yo-Kai Watch: It's the Secret of Birth, Nyan! (Toho) Week 4
03 (--) ST: Scientific Investigation Squad (Toho) DEBUT
04 (--) Psycho-Pass: The Movie (Toho Video Division) DEBUT
05 (--) Taken 3 (Fox) DEBUT

06 (03) The Vancouver Asahi (Toho) Week 4
07 (04) Ao Haru Ride (Toho) Week 5
08 (05) The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (Warner Bros.) Week 5
09 (08) Gone Girl (Fox) Week 5
10 (06) Parasyte Part 1 (Toho) Week 7

>Big Hero 6 wins its second-consecutive week atop the box-office, while delivering a very impressive post-New Year weekend.

Disney's latest earned ¥546,088,800 ($4.6 million) with 413,230 admissions, down just 18% compared to last weekend. After four weeks in release, including Monday, it's now grossed ¥5.72 billion ($48.6 million) with 4.50 million admissions.

It has become Disney Animation's second biggest film ever, and if it keeps up this pace, it's likely to exceed ¥8 billion ($70 million+) and could make a play at possibly ¥10 billion ($85/90 million).<

>Yo-Kai Watch: It's the Secret of Birth, Nyan! holds strong in second place, and is still ahead of Big Hero 6 thanks to it's record opening week, though it should be overtaken by the end of January.

After four weeks, including Monday, it has reached a total of ¥6.54 billion ($55.6 million) with 5.93 million admissions. It's now ¥1 billion and 610,000 admissions away from overtaking the highest-grossing Pokemon film, further cementing the franchise's place as Pokemon's successor in Japan. It has surpassed Pokemon's recent merchandise sales, video game sales and TV ratings, so this was the final hurtle. Nothing before Yo-Kai Watch has been able to upset Pokemon across all mediums.

It's also looking pretty good at reaching ¥8 billion ($70 million) at this point, which will put it over 7 million admissions and should rank it inside the Top 40 most-attended films ever.<

>ST: Scientific Investigation Squad was the weekend's top debut, taking in ¥200,342,500 ($1.7 million) with 153,767 admissions over the weekend, and exceeded ¥300 million ($2.5 million) on Monday. The debut is sold enough, and it'll become 2015's first ¥1 billion earner.<

>Psycho-Pass had a very impressive debut, playing on just 103 screens. It grossed ¥136,899,100 ($1.2 million) with 93,164 admissions over the weekend. This is much lower than estimates, but the near-limited release makes it hard to project these films. It'll probably be a bit frontloaded, but shouldn't have a problem reaching ¥500 million ($4/4.5 million).<

>Taken 3 came in above estimates, grossing ¥120,666,200 ($1.0 million) with 93,101 admissions on 353 screens. This debut is nearly identical to Non-Stop's (1,149 admission difference) last year. If it behaves like that one though, it'll have poor legs and just cross the ¥400 million ($3/3.5 million) mark.<

>Sin City: A Dame to Kill For missed the Top 10 in its debut, ranking 12th over the weekend. No figures have been released for it yet, however.<
