That seems very very good for Beasts after it's massive opening.

Its good but keep in mind the first Saturday of each month is discounted and experiences big boosts. Probably drop 40% next weekend. Then again up against Star Wars.

Corpse is saying it will be past 20B, or very close to this weekend. He thinks with the holidays coming up if it can survive a few big releases (after all it took no hit from Fantastic Beasts) it could reach close to 25B. This would challenge Frozen and Titanic.

With China adding such a huge amount it could very well earn over 400m at the worldwide box office once its released everywhere. This would challenge the French film Intouchables record of 426m for film outside of China/US

The Harry Potter spin-off added $15.5m in China as it charted second for a local haul of $72.5m, while Japan fell only 18% with a $6m second weekend as it retained top spot and reached $28.6m.

That is a better drop than pretty much all HP movies. But since HBP was the only one to have a 5 day opening, that one is the best comparison. HBP dropped 37% in it's second weekend to 6.4m. At this point I think 60m should happen, no?

December is super packed with big releases with three films that could do over 50m in the next weeks. Corpse is thinking it just gets to 60m

I think they have done a good job capturing the look of the characters.

>Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them earns an easy second week atop the box office, and posted an impressive sub-20% drop in the process. It's now tracking about on par with the lowest-grossing Harry Potter film, Deathly Hallows - Part 1, granted it does have a couple days to its advantage thanks to a Wednesday release. After 12 days, it has sold over 2.1 million admissions already.

However, the fact that it's performing very close to, nearly on par with, any of the Harry Potter films, even if it's the weakest one, is excellent. Let's see how the next few weeks turn out - it'd be something if it manages to outgross Deathly Hallows - Part 1 - ¥6.86 billion (~$60 million, currently).

>Your Name. has fallen from the top of the box office, but that's not slowing it down in the slightest. Just when it was beginning to slip a little bit, it's actually up this weekend, and by double digit figures to achieve the second biggest fifteenth weekend of all-time, behind only Frozen.

It's now the fifth highest-grossing film of all-time, and will surpass Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (¥20.3 billion) by the end of this week. And in terms of admissions, it's reached 15.36 million admissions, and is closing in on Howl's Moving Castle (15.5 million); Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (16.2 million); and Titanic (16.83 million)... it's going to surpass the former two with no problem, and may just pass the latter as well.

Makoto Shinkai's absolute smash clearly has plenty of life remaining, too, and it's becoming likely that it'll still be playing on a sufficient number of screens when New Year rolls around in four weeks, which is going to give it a huge boost on top of its incredible ongoing total... It's probably unlikely to happen, but there is a clear path to ¥25 billion (~$230 million), which means it may just challenge Frozen and/or Titanic to become the second or third highest-grossing film of all-time.

Corpse says it's unlikely that Your Name will reach 25 billion yen, but what's stopping it? It's demonstrated incredible legs even with the release of blockbusters like Fantastic Beasts. In terms of animated film competition, Sing and Moana also won't release until mid-March. Is Rogue One going to hurt its legs in the coming weeks?

There is a Yokai Watch film coming out this month that will be a big animated hit. However that is more targeted to children demographic.

Its great to see In This Corner of the World doing well. I love Studio Mappa's works and they have needed some success after a number of disappointing projects financially.
