from Corpse from world of kj

Iron Man 3 earned an impressive ¥533,040,000 ($5.45 million) on 357,058 admissions over it's first three days in release on 534 screens (268 3D, 266 3D). This beats Iron Man 2's Fri-Sun by 55%. I believe it has a strong chance of hitting ¥3 billion ($30-35 million) now with Golden Week, which actually won't be far from The Avengers (¥3.61 billion).

So at first it appeared IM3 did not do well in Japan but will end up grossing nearly 2.5-3X more then Im2

so + 20-25 million from IM2 from Japan.

maybe a little early to ask this but what potential do you see for Pacific Rim here?

The Obon festival help to boost TA gross last year if that can be of some reference. And with PR concept, I think it will do quite well.

Saturday-Monday Estimates

Iron Man 3 (Disney) ¥619 million ($6.32 million) DEBUT!
Library Wars (Toho) ¥367 million ($3.75 million) DEBUT!
Kamen Rider x Super Sentai x Space Sheriff (Toei) ¥346 million ($3.54 million) DEBUT!
Shield of Straw (Warner Bros.) ¥309 million ($3.16 million) DEBUT!

Crayon Shin-chan: Very Tasty! Gourmet Survival Class (Toho) ¥246 million ($2.52 million) Week 2
Dragonball Z: Battle of Gods (Toei) ¥126 million ($1.29 million) Week 5

10 Doraemon: Nobita's Secret Gadget Museum (Toho) ¥78 million ($800,000) Week 8

Monday (Showa Day) Increases/Decreases from Sunday:
Doraemon (+40%)
Crayon Shin-chan (+25%)
Detective Conan (+23%)
Shield of Straw (+8%)
Library Wars (+4%)
Dragonball Z (+3%)
Lincoln (-1%)
Iron Man 3 (-3%)
The Last Stand (-8%)
Kamen Rider (-10%)

Great weekend to end Golden Week this year.

Detective Conan makes it 3-consecutive weeks on top now and should stay there for one or two more weeks, too.

Iron Man 3's second weekend is greater than Iron Man 2's opening weekend by 35% and 140/145% stronger than it's second weekend. It has without a doubt outgrossed Iron Man 2 now, too, after just 9 or 10 days.

Shield of Straw showed some strength this weekend, with the second best increase when normally family/animated films see the biggest gains. Perhaps this is an indicator that legs may stay strong post-Golden Week for it.

Only one opener went wide, Gangster Squad, and it earned approx. ¥38 million ($390,000) over the weekend probably missing the Top 10.
