Can you imagine that scene done today?, it would be all cgi and wouldn't look half as good ot have anywhere near the same impact.

I always prefer traditional effects. I mean, look at something like the original Star Wars or Gremlins. With traditional effects it feels like those critters are really there. And yes, traditional explosions are way more badass than CG

I had it at 570mil and that was with my prediction of 8.4mil for today, i'm still sticking with my 570mil prediction though.

What do you have it for the weekend?

I expected a little more but it's a good number, i remember taht SpiderMan 2nd weekdays were much lower than the first (comparing to the second weekend drop) but then it went up by 240% on Friday, I don't expect the same here (Attack of the clones open the thrusday before) but this friday increase will be much bigger than the 136% increase this friday

I'm also less confident in $600 million. Whenever I run the numbers to when the dailies are $100-$150k, I can never get to $600 million, let alone $650m. My final prediction is $590 million.

I hope I'm off by something like $45 million though.

May 13, 2012

With official grosses reporting on Monday, it's official—The Avengers has joined the fabled $1 billion worldwide box office club. The movie reached this level on its 19th day in theaters, which ties the record-breaking pace of Avatarand Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2(though The Avengers was only playing in the U.S. for ten of those days). It currently ranks 12th on the all-time worldwide chart with $1.000.4 billion, and by the end of next weekend it will move up to fourth place behind Avatar, Titanic and Deathly Hallows Part 2.
