If you wondered about the price tag of the movie :

Visionary director Alex Proyas conjures a magical world inspired by the mythology of Ancient Egypt. In this special Q&A, visual effects supervisor Eric Durst talks gods, monsters and the truly monumental 2,550-shot workload shared between Iloura, Rising Sun Pictures, Cinesite, Tippett Studio, Rodeo FX, Fin VFX, Raynault VFX, UPP, Makeshift VFX, Comen VFX and Crafty Apes, working from extensive previs by Proof, Inc.

Deadline's 2nd update estimate is $10-12 million, and one of the sentences in their write-up sounds like it was written specifically because of Lionsgate saying foreign sales helped cover the cost of the film, and they say everybody loses when there is a flop like this.

It's exactly the same thing they wrote for The Last Witch Hunter too,

but if you look the numbers the tax cover was 46% , so the real cost of this film even without presales is 75 mil.

There was no way people in USA was going to watch GOE , even if they were interested the media would have killed any interest by talking about racial and other staff, but maybe it can manage to make 65 mil OS.( so that people will not loose their money).

Lionsgate is fucked. FUCKED. They are producing 100M+ movies like Last Witch Hunter and Gods of Egypt to open with 10M lol.

Even if foreign presales insulate Lionsgate right now, how much longer will those presales partners actually put up with OS underperformances is the question. Lionsgate better have good deals lined up for them with Ascendant, Power Rangers and John Wick 2.

They OS sales only covered 46% of the budget.

They got 65M for Divergent and 65M for Insurgent. Allegiant and Ascendant can only go down from that.

Especially since John Wick 2 could easily end up grossing just a little more than the first, which isn't much.
