CoolioD1
And young men are playing old men etcIt's basically a huge makeup effort. Here's a Featurette about it -
Impact
So its the film that will win in one cat but wont be nominated elsewhere. Like Wolfman. (Which that was still funny to hear when it won "Wow The Wolfman is a Oscar winner!" Of course then it was followed by how sad it was that it had more Oscars then True Grit and Dragon)
CoolioD1
...it could get nominated in another category like score or art direction or visual effects or something. Maybe it could even upset in the best picture category (I wish!)
The Futurist
The Hobbit is clearely the frontrunner in this.
JackO
This is a tough category. Only 3 spots and lots of contenders. I guess only lock is Cloud Atlas.Cloud AtlasLincolnHobbitalso, Hitchcock, Les Mis, and Anna Karenina

fishstick
Hobbit bombing in thsi category would be deserved because HFR exposed bad make-up. Lincoln should win it for DDl make-up.

riczhang
Now this is just depressing. I can't bring myself to really care about the rest of the season now. Maybe next year if August: Osage County does well.
CoolioD1
What? It's pretty damn rare that a movie like Cloud Atlas comes along and uses make up in such a huge vital way these days. Properly transforming some of the actors to something unrecognisable in some cases. But if they really think the crappy work on JoGoLev in LOOPER was better than that, then whatever.
Sims
If Cloud Atlas couldn't get into the final seven in a category many thought it could WIN, I'm doubting it gets any nominations at all.

CoolioD1
Holy Motors also had much better makeup than most of the movies on that shortlist. (though I never really expected it to be nominated of course, but still, urrgggghh)
riczhang
I was going to say that they wouldn't nominate 2 latex based makeup films, and then I looked at last year's slate of nominees.
Kvikk Lunsj
Horrible short list for best makeup.
MovieGuyKyle17
I usually don't care about the Make-up and that but come on Cloud Atlas deserves to win this award hands down and they don't even put it on the Short List?? That's BS just like how Community hasn't won any emmys yet...(sorry off-topic just making an comparison) Edited December 16, 2012 by MGK17

Ozymandias
How...the fuck...did Men in Black 3...get in...over Cloud Atlas....Although Cloud Atlas was one of my favorite movies of the year, it did have a few laugh out loud makeup jobs in it. Jake Gittes
Although Cloud Atlas was one of my favorite movies of the year, it did have a few laugh out loud makeup jobs in it.I wasn't a fan of Bae Doona being made to look like an Englishwoman, but thought all the other make-up jobs were fine and, in many cases, outstanding. (Ben Whishaw playing a woman was bad make-up too, but I thought it was deliberate as it perfectly fit the tone of Timothy Cavendish's story). In any case, to me, Cloud Atlas unquestionably deserves all possible awards for its make-up and editing. Two of the most difficult and important aspects of the film and they pulled them off beautifully.
