riczhang
Pi is more of a director's movie than SLP, and this is the director's branch voting for it after all. Plus, Ang Lee's cred is about 10x that of Russell's. So, I say it'd be Pi.
acsc1312
if Russell could get in two years ago with arguably a more stacked field, he can get in this year.
riczhang
if Russell could get in two years ago with arguably a more stacked field, he can get in this year.I don't think so. Not with the way that things are looking right now.
acsc1312
We shall see. Depends on the momentum Weinstein can get SLP.
RichWS
if Russell could get in two years ago with arguably a more stacked field, he can get in this year.I don't see how 2010 was more competitive than this year. This is the best field we've seen in a long time.

I just hope acting noms gets Russell another nom.
Kvikk Lunsj
Nolan, Boyle, and the Coens were all left out. Besides PTA's inevitable snub, I think there was more in 2010. I just hope acting noms gets Russell another nom. The coens got in. It was nominated for ten Academy Awards,[34][35] but won none: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Actor (Bridges), Best Supporting Actress (Steinfeld), Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design, Best Sound Mixing, and Best Sound Editing.[36]

The Stingray
Btw, anyone think Bigelow has a chance to win another one? Reviews so far seem to say its even better than Hurt Locker. And to anyone who's seen Hurt Locker, how good is it on a scale 1-10?
Jake Gittes
I'd say between 8 and 9. It's a great film. But Bigelow winning another Oscar so soon would be even more surprising than Hooper doing it.In 2010, Nolan, Boyle and Scorsese got snubbed imo. But The Fighter did very well at the box-office and came out almost a month later in the year than SLP, plus the performances Russell got out of Bale, Adams and Leo were even more impressive, I think, than his work with Cooper and Lawrence. Plus, it was a successful comeback for him after a 6-year hiatus, and Hollywood loves comebacks.

I'd love for her to win another one if it truly surpasses THL, but I really think it's Hooper or Affleck's to lose atm.

JackO
Close to switching out Lee for Tarantino but I don't think Pi is a critics film, will wait for guilds. RussellBigelowSpeilbergLeeAffleck
