I don't know if copies = theaters but that would means it gets a rather big start. But of course some films get almost 1000 theaters (the Hobbit films e.g.). According to Boxofficemojo the first Reacher movie started in 544 theaters. So around the same.
 

JR2 had 3.227 admissions yesterday (premiere séance). I try to find some comparisons...

Après 1 semaine d’exploitation dans les salles françaises, l’adaptation Marvel DOCTOR STRANGE a engrangé 1 001 793 entrées sur 590 copies. Suffisant pour déloger BRICE 3 de la tête du box-office… Mais est-ce un démarrage réussi pour la superproduction ?

Le film réalise ainsi le 16ème démarrage de l’année derrière SUICIDE SQUAD, BATMAN V SUPERMAN ou encore le dernier CAPTAIN AMERICA, autre adaptations de comics. Mais là où la performance de DOCTOR STRANGE devient plus intéressante, c’est en comparant avec les premiers volets des franchises Marvel. Et on se rend compte que si on exclut AVENGERS qui peut être considéré comme une suite, seul DEADPOOL a fait mieux que DOCTOR STRANGE.
