Rsyu
JW small decrease for Sunday I think a good result? I think so. Movies usually drop around 10% on Sundays so it's in that normal drop range, but usually movies don't open as big as Jurassic World did either. Rsyu
It looks like the big 3 tentpoles of this summer will be <Assassination>, <Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation>, and <Veteran> and surprisingly enough all 3 are set to be released towards the end of July within 1 week of each other. MI5 currently has a set release date of July 30th which is generally seen as the best opening window of the summer box office season. Last year, Roaring Currents opened on that very day and made off with 17 million admissions. This is the best opening date yet for a Mission Impossible movie and gives it a good chance to increase over Ghost protocol, which is currently the most successful film of the series. Showbox and CJ have been more careful in deciding their release dates but recent reports suggest that Assassination will be released on the 23rd a week before MI5. It's worth noting that Assassination will have the exact same release date Kundo: The Age of the Rampant had last year which was effectively ended just a week into it's run by Roaring Currents. Despite this, it seems as though Showbox are confident that Assassination will have more luck competing against Rogue Nation and Veteran than Kundo had against RC. Veteran too was originally scheduled for the first week of August but moved it up one week to put it in direct contest with MI5. Apparently this move came from concerns that the late release date would have it chasing the tails of Assassination and MI5 throughout it's run. A risky move on the part of CJ, time will tell whether it will pay dividends. I'm currently thinking that Assassination will win the summer followed by MI5 and then Veteran but being released so close to each other, we could see at least one of the films suffering from too much competition. Whichever's the case we should get ready for a couple of weeks of hectic box office tracking

pepsa
Isn't it? From what I've seen Wom is really good. WoM isn't that good, (It totaly not bad) but not great I mean you could say it's average. I bit like Avengers (maybe a bit better). Because if you have good WOM I can asure you that SK will pay it's depts. Look at MMF and Kingsman they got great runs all carried by WoM
Rsyu
WoM for Jurassic World is nothing special in Korea. The general consensus seems to be that it's better than 2 and 3 (not exactly difficult ) but doesn't reach the heights of JP1. Still, it has a decent shout for 4 million admissions though which means at least it isn't a downright bomb. The general public anxiety over the MERS virus and failure to contain it from the government hasn't helped matters either. It was in the news the other day that public transportation(the subway especially) has taken a huge hit the past few months with people actively avoiding crowded places. I can only imagine that many people feel the same way about cinemas. I visited my local theatre yesterday and it seemed oddly deserted for the time of year. Only 50 people for my Jurassic World screening too out of 300 seats or so which made for a pretty lousy viewing experience. dropsicaldackel
Solid start for THE CLASSIFIED FILE. Didn't particularly care for it but I imagine it will have a strong weekend though I don't think it will have any great WOM. So-so start for THE SILENCED, which I've heard is really good (out of country now so haven't had a chance to see it yet). And the summer frame looks a but busier with Lotte finally scheduling MEMORIES OF THE SWORD. I bet they're very nervous about it and hoping that they can hop on the tailwinds of Lee Byung-hun's performance in TERMINATOR. In any case, local films should rebound nicely in late July. Very much looking forward to all three of the big Korean tentpoles!
chasmmi
Terminator will be interesting here, as Red 2 was comparatively massive here compared to the rest of the world because of Lee. However, the impression I get from Korea is that he seems to be burning bridges here with regards to his reputation in Korea so may actually harm Terminator, not help it. But that could just be a vocal minority that scream and cry at every scandal everywhere but it actually has no effect on anything in the wider scheme of things. Terminator Salvation somehow did 4.5 million admissions here so there is potential for Genisys. Also, I imagine that while Lee Byung-hun's reputation has nosedived, the movie can sell itself without relying on him as a draw. I don't think he's hated so much that a large percentage of moviegoers would actively avoid his movies.
