You guys are crazy^^

Juli looks a little weak but May and June are as strong as they come

Indeed. We are having a 1.2 billion grosser, FF6 will make 750-800. The Croods over 600. And we still have to see Man of Steel, Monsters University, Despicable me or Pacific Rim.

2013 wont touch 2012 in terms of 400+/500+/600+/700+/800+ OS grossers. Also the total international box office for Hollywood blockbusters of 2013 will decline from 2012.

That is called "weak".

Ok. It is true that last year was strange and we have many movies with superb OS performances. We had 3 400+ DOM and 4 billionaire movies. But 2013 has several movies that can do very well:

2012

800+: 2

700+: 2

600+: 1

500+: 2

400+: 4

In 2013 we could have this:

800+: Iron Man 3

700+: Hobbit 2

600+:

500+: FF6, Thor 2, Smurfs 2

400+: MU, DM2, Croods, CF, Pacific Rim, Man of Steel

Some of them could jump to next category. And we could have some surprise like were Intouchables or Life of Pi last year.

Why are we debating this? 2013 was always going to have a lower gross than 2012. Compare the two lineups.

2012: The Avengers, The Dark Knight Rises, Ice Age: Continental Drift, The Amazing Spider-Man, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, Life of Pi, Skyfall, Twilight: Breaking Dawn 2, Men in Black 3, Ted, The Hunger Games, Les Misérables, Wreck-It Ralph, Prometheus, Battleship, Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted

2013: Iron Man 3, Man of Steel, The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug, The Hangover 3, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Thor: The Dark World, Fast & Furious 6, The Croods, Monsters University, Despicable Me 2, The Smurfs 2, Pacific Rim, The Lone Ranger, The Wolverine, Oblivion

If you look at the group as a whole, 2012 is much stronger than 2013. Why? 2012 features a lot of films that are the last in the franchise. The Dark Knight Rises, Men in Black 3, Twilight Breaking Dawn 2, Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted, Ice Age: Continental Drift can all be considered as the finale for their respective series. 2013 consists of a lot of sequels but most are the 2nd in the franchise not the 3rd. Most of 2012 can be summed up by either being an adaptation of a novel/play or a continuation of the franchise. 2013 seems to be a little more diverse than 2012 in content but that means it can be a hit or miss at the box office.

Foreign films played a big role in 2012. Intouchables was obviously the standout and played a huge role in 2012's massive sum but 2013 hasn't had a worldwide phenomenon like Intouchables to boost its overall take yet.

And Intouchables is really a 2011 film anyway, it's just because of Mojos way of listing things, even though it doesn't make much sense for a foreign film that gets released later in America.

Holly hell, the intouchables made over 400 million overseas!!!!! What a monster! I had heard of the film but had no clue it was such a hit; that even dwarf's pi's take considering the difference in the movies' budgets!

Asuming that there were some ending movies in 2012, the two biggest hits (Avengers and Skyfall) were absolutely unexpected. We can asume that Avengers would make a good number, maybe 900-1 billion WW, but nearly nobody (excepting BKB :P) predicted it would hit 1.5 billion. And Skyfall nearly doubled what the two predecessors had done. We are in the half of the year and we can still have some surprises. I am not saying this year will be higher than last but I do not think it will be so low relative to 2012. Box office is not an exact science. We should have already learned it.

I think World War Z can aslo be a wild card, especially abroad.
