Universal Pictures International’s Despicable Me 2grossed $12.2m from 6,100 theatres in 53 territories to soar past $400m and reach $407.5m to rank as the third biggest international performer of the year-to-date behind Iron man 3 and stablemate Fast & Furious 6.

There was a $1.1m number one launch in 32 sites in the UAE, a superb result that produced the studio’s biggest debut and the biggest animated opening weekend in the territory so far in 2013.

The family release added $1.7m in Germany on 680 for $30.1m after three weekends and has reached $30.9m in France after 39 days and $62m in the UK after 45.

If China can add 30m, 500 OS shouldnt be a problem.

No need of China, Russia will make 30M. And still 3 big markets to be opened. South Korea, Italy and Japan. Those 3 markets would definitely make another 45-50M. 28M from current markets(including Russia) and 45M from the 3 to-be-opened markets, it'll make 508M OS at the end.

Ouch.

There are some strange rumors going around, some say that Uni didn't even bother to make an application for the film, and some officials is reported to have said that he did not think DM2 would do good business in the country, and it was even reported by some mainstreams news outlets in the west that the reason for this is because the minions resemble a certain Chinese leader of the past lol. But in any case, since the recent revelations that the CF group didn't pay any Hollywood studio the agreed share of their movies' gross at all in the last 10 months, it's not like Uni will miss it that much. It's only lost 'gross' on paper.

DM2 could have been bombed in China.

That has been resolved already, the studios are getting their money now.
