What do you mean TOM HOLLAND? Lol, why is he even on the list?

Also, I don't think Pratt was the reason why JW, GOTG, and even THE LEGO MOVIE opened well.

It's basically about concepts now, though I'm not saying the popularity of actors doesn't play a role anymore.

MOS opened big. Was that because of Cavill? Obviously not. But you can say the same thing to almost all, if not all comic book movies.

Who is that? LOL

You said soon and the soonest film he'll lead is the SPIDER-MAN reboot. And even if you meant "future", don't you think it's too early to say? I just thought it was an overreaction on your part.

Also, if RDJ indeed draws, THE JUDGE should have made more. The same thing for CHEF.

But just like what I said, it's more about the movies now as a whole and not just the actors.

LOL, RDJ had one scene in Chef. Also if you look at Sherlock Holmes vs. all other Guy Ritchie movies, their box office runs are like night and day.

He was. But those and the IM movies were high profile ones. His most recent films, that aren't IM or SH failed to crack 50 M. But then again that is expected because of their limited audience.

Sherlock Holmes was a $90m budgeted movie.  Just $10m more than this one (which WB cut down in budget from $90m after Cruise left it).  The most high profile thing about the movie was that RDJ was in it.  He was the movie's biggest asset, ditto the sequel.

Due Date did $100m domestic and $211m ww.

His only other recent movie he has a leading role in was The Judge.  That's it.  It was a rated R family legal drama dealing with a dead mother, a dying father, a murder trial, and mentally challenged brother and it had less than stellar reviews and premiered outside awards bait season.  It still did about $85m ww and none of that was because of the rest of the cast or the subject matter.     Leo's J Edgar Hoover movie premiered domestically to $11m and didn't crack $40m domestic and made about the same ww.  Does that mean he's not a draw?

Or maybe it means that those movies without those stars might have been limited released or gone straight to VOD.  But then that happens to stars as well.  Bradley Cooper and JLaw's mediocre to poor reviewed Serena  with a  price tag of $30m did about $2m ww and less than $200k domestically when it couldn't find anyone who wanted to distribute it.   I guess that means neither of them have any star power and can't open a movie.

So, no one can open a movie, no one is worth any more than any one else and they might as well hire porn stars or maybe just promote some extras and make them your lead. B)

Edit: and that was a waste of typing.  Welcome back E, you've been missed!

But you are forgetting that SHERLOCK HOLMES is a very popular literary character that really looks interesting and entertaining when translated to the big screen. It's just wrong to compare the films to Ritchie's other films. It's like comparing ALICE IN WONDERLAND to FRANKENWEENIE or SWEENEY TODD. And I have read people say it many times that they liked the look and direction of the SH films.

SH has been in DOZENS of movies. McKellen has one out right now.  None of them have been blockbusters before even ones with sizable budgets.

Leave it to CJohn to include him, lol.

Lol whatever. You guys need to learn how to read. After that, post again. WTF. I didn't include him in anything you bunch of fools. I said after he became famous (with two Spider-Man movies and an Avengers or two, or whatever), he would also have failed movies where he was the lead, like Hemsworth and Evans. I never said anything about right now. So stfu everyone who attacked me.

I don't think there has been a Sherlock Holmes iteration before the WB/Joel Sliver/Guy Ritchie/RDJ one that made it look like an episode of Indiana Jones.

Which is why I did not care much for the RItchie version. Making Holmes into an action hero was a big mistake.

Despite the modern setting, the Bendecit Cumbernatch "Sherlock" series is MUCH closer to Conan Doyle's original then what Ritchie gave us.

As to UNCLE,opening so soon after MI5 hurt it. Irony is they moved it up because they though the original release date was too close to SPECTRE,but still got clobbered by another spy film.

They probably should have left it at it's original release date in January and it would have been out of the gate before all the other Spy movies and away from a more action packed crowded summer.

I think this was hurt by MI more than anything else. MI had the older guy audience, that this film needed to survive. Ironic that Cruise was originally supposed to star in Uncle. His presence would have assured atleast 20m+ OW.

eta: okay I apologize. I went back and read your actual post. I get what you're saying. But I wouldn't change my reply. Your rant is just too precious.
