I wonder of this can do well overseas

Then, in what looks like a tie, come Warner Bros’ new entry, The Man From U.N.C.L.E. and Sony’s Pixels each with an estimated $12M.

Not like it matters.

It's not like Chris Evans can open a movie.

None of the superhero-powered stars can. Not even the highest paid actor in the world...

(hence, it's all about characters and brands themselves rather than actors' names)

Or all the other Chrises.

& Pratt, without Blue & Rexie or without Groot & Rocket.

Pratt remains to be seen. Nobody can pull a Tom Cruise these days, but Pratt is gonna do better than the rest I suspect.

Otherwise...

Fair enough. I mean, Blackhat. Lol.

Sherlock Holmes movies have consistently been made for over 100 years and none of them made $500m+ ww, adjusted or otherwise and we can clearly see that it wasn't because of Ritchie.  Claiming RDJ isn't a draw and can't open a movie is like saying Cruise couldn't open a movie even in the late 90s when he did Magnolia. Or that Leo can't open movie because of Body Of Lies, Revolutionary Road, Blood Diamond, and J Edgar.

Brands, concepts and genres - as do budgets and marketing of course matter and not every star is as valuable in every genre or to every brand but a star can usually provide a certain baseline level of success.  A star in this movie in this genre, with this budget and marketing would 10-1 have provided an opening at least twice as big.

At least he isn't a black hat hacker named Hathaway.

By your logic, he's 3 times more popular than Johnny Depp (Mortdecai), almost twice as Hemsworth (Blackhat), and about the same as RDJ (The Judge).

LMFAO. Drag that delusional ass stan.

Yup other than RDJ in certain roles and maybe ScarJo in certain roles, no superhero actor has really become a draw

Truthfully...this isn't just a superhero thing,,.this is an every actor on the planet thing. Tom Cruise? Will Smith?

Stars like that...that can sell reading the phone book...when the phone book actually existed...

No more.

Yep, that era is gone.

Make your peace with it, the who s a draw discussions in 2015 lead to nowhere.
