I actually thought this was one of the Coen Bros weaker efforts. Still a *** film but not close to even their films that came before this (Burn After Reading, A Serious Man, No Country for Old Men).

Solid movie from beginning to end, but not nearly as good as everyone made it out to be. Steinfeld and Damon were great, script was good, cinematography was excellent, but it kind of fell flat one too many times for me.B+

This is the best of the Coen brothers' movies IMO. I loved the script, the direction, the cinematography, the acting, the pacing, everything. I especially loved Hailee Steinfiled. She almost stole the scenes she was in even when she was working with talent as good as Bridges and Damon.A

It's now about a B-/B. I still can't believe how overhyped it was. I haven't been able to sit through it since I saw it at the best pic showcase (which I left for about 20 mins during, only film in the series.) Edited February 18, 2013 by acsc1312

Not my favorite Coen movie but everything I love about the Coens' craft is in True Grit. Just a wonderful film.

What I adore about the Coens is how they compose their movies. There's never an useless shot or edit.

I liked this less with every subsequent viewing. It looks great and Jeff Bridges/Matt Damon give fun performances, but..... ehhh. Kinda hard for me to give a shit about any of it.

certainly entertaining but otherwise clearly inferior to most of their other efforts. it is of little interest morally and it falls prey to all sorts of contrivances, with an epilogue that is almost schmaltzy. this mostly generic western is my least favourite coen to date.
