SchumacherFTW
I love the fact that there is now potential for this to drop to a Saw IV level if that number holds. Would be kind of awesome in my opinion.
Jack Nevada
The "scariest" part in Woman in Black that had Radcliffe tumbling from a jump scare to the next in the big mansion was so stupid.

TLK
Tell me you're kidding. You can't seriously be on a movie box office website and believe they spent 150 mill on PA4. Why not? What is the going rate for Primetime ads on NBC, CBS, ABC etc.? That's just US TV market, there is print and internet advertising, international marketing, distribution costs etc. 100 million Worldwide expenses for a mid-budget movie is pretty standard these days. Even for small movies, the cost of marketing is typically in the $20 million range. Kevin Smith didn't even try to sell his movie "Red State" to studios because the production cost of the movie was less than $5 million and big studios don't buy movies unless they are willing to mount a $20-25 million ad campaign to support it. TLK
This article is from last year. - About $100,000 for 30 second TV ad on Network channels.http://www.adweek.com/news/television/their-prime-broadcast-spot-costs-soar-132805 Marketers looking to buy time on broadcast television have had to dig a little deeper, as the average cost of a prime-time spot is just shy of $110,000 a pop.According to analysis by New York independent media agency TargetCast tcm, the average price of a 30-second spot in the first quarter of 2011 was $108,956, up 5 percent from the year-ago period. The percentage increase translates to an average hike of $5,000 per ad.Thanks to its dominance among the 18-49 demo, Fox continues to lead the way in pricing, with an average Q1 unit cost of $188,974. Curiously, that represents a 6 percent decline from the first quarter of 2010, when TargetCast pegged Fox’s average spot at a hair above $200,000. rockNrollaDIM
Me either. There must be package deals in place. And, if I'm not mistaken a typical TV spot is usually 10-15 seconds.
CJohn
That number is bloody awful. It may not break 30M OW. The PA franchise may be over. This is what happens when you release something like Paranormal Activity 3.Any news on Alex Cross?
Impact
Well as pointed out before-part 4 is usually where films drop like a rock. Not until recently part 4 was where films started to do really bad.
#ED
$100,000 for a commercial? The Avengers had more commercials than anything I seen this year. 10 commercials a day = $1M? Somehow doubt this...

JackO
Damn, looks like PA4 will miss 40M. But Argo had an amazing hold. I need a couple more holds like the ones it is looking to get this weekend! According to early returns, the fourth installment in the "Paranormal" franchise is on track for $17 million Friday, which includes Thursday's latenight haul of $4.5 million. "Paranormal Activity 4" has secured the No. 1 spot at the domestic box office, as expected, with Paramount's horror sequel scaring up between $35 million-$37 million for the weekend. The weekend's other newcomer, Summit's actioner "Alex Cross," is tracking between $12 million-$16 million. Warner Bros.' CIA thriller "Argo," meanwhile, is holding very steady in its sophomore frame with approximately $15 million, according to early estimates. The Ben Affleck pic, riding a 95% fresh rating on RottenTomatoes, is down only 25% from opening weekend, despite having roughly the same theater count. "Argo" leads a pack of hearty holdovers. Fox's "Taken 2" and Sony's Adam Sandler toon "Hotel Translyvania" are both eyeing $11.5 million this weekend. http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118061028 Edited October 20, 2012 by JackO

The Dark Alfred
It absolutely bombed in the UK. 40m would be huge for this. PA3 was awful, PA4 is the same crap, it's incredible that the franchise still draws that many people in.
