Well I am just glad that douban audience applies the same standard in regard to storyline for Hollywood movies. Many local movies and tv series were rightfully panned for the incoherent plot, Mary Sue plot device, and rehashing old storyline with some cosmetic twist - which basically is what SW7 is. Sorry fans of SW7, I really think it is a remake, not a sequel.

America and the UK are watching the film through their "but it's Star Wars!" glasses.

But do China have the time now to move KFP3 a week early? Like a last minute resort?....

It seems too late now.......

No!So dreamwork may have some mistakes choosing the open window.Disney market is very smart.Ant man,AoU,TFA,all have the best release date, all have at least 15 days even 20days empty room.

And since if SW: EP7 underperforms as bad ....

IMHO it does not 'underperform' as long as it stays above SPECTRE, and that would still be only the start of 'underperforming' = without an additional 'bad'

Not saying it would do bad....i mean it will do good. But some SW-fan was expecting TF4 or FF7 numbers. They are the ones to be disappointed about it.

it is impossible to expect SW7 to behave like TF series and FF in china, again, I don't think it's underperformed but certainly it showed that chinese are less excited about SW, anyway it just day 2, anything upward trending could still happen ~

But if it really scored $150m, i think we can start to use taiwan, malaysia as an indicator of how the film will perform in China, i find that it's quite correlated recently~

That I can imagine, hence the reason why I wrote since I am back from my work related longer break at the dom's 'BO per day threads', ... to expect way less, to visit this forum and read up and so on.

I've seen some way over the top expectations and a few rather strange reasoning(s?) for those there.... (and a lot of wrong assumptions about other OS countries too)

According to audience reaction,it may have worse multi than Spectre.SP multi 6x OD.TFA may only 4~4.5 x OD.Cinema score is still getting lower.

IMDB says China Firm Co is co-producing KFP3. Is it distributing it here as well (IMDB doesn't mention)? For a movie which is basically a Chinese movie for all the co-production involved, I find it strange it didn't obtain a better date, i.e. 15 Jan. Don't tell me Disney manage to hash out a better deal?

I don't really blame them for having those expectations. As I've said before, the western press was really bigging up the TFA's chances of success in China, even suggesting record-breaking numbers.

When did Spectre open? If not on Saturday, multis are incomparable.

Friday. But Spectre face MJ2,Martian,Our times in 10 days.Even compare with first Sat,SP multi 5x.TFA will not have any serious competition until KFP3.20 days is a very good open window to break. If TFA drop very hard on weekday, even local animation and  tv shows will bite his throat.

No.Disney don't related to the release date.KFP3 release date is settled last year, very early for a foriegn film.Dreamwork is not smart to choose a date.If market is strong as Disney,Panda may have a better release date.

Multi's out of OD or OW are not something I am interested in, incl dom,.... (beside those two movies having different OD conditions, having other genres and other general differences), I spoke about final result / end result.

For me it's only of interest if they planted 'the seed of awareness' / prepared the ground in general, that includes the streaming contract too.

IMHO Rogue One is the movie Disney plans to use to build on for the future build up.

Only as an additional info:

The only MP I am using is filming budget to ww final, and depending on dom / OS / China's shares, picking the one I use for 'made money' or not, and how much it made to be able to conclude possible future projects,... and learning about the impact of changed advertising, new technologies, changed market situations (economy per country, exchange rates, local law changes,...) might have had on the ww results. And similar...

I see. Still strange to me that a better date wasn't secured as China Firm Co is behind Panda.

IronJimbo, always awaiting that latest opportunity to rip into Star Wars and it's audience I see.

He hasn't given up yet?

Is on ignore... (I am a ~ fan of both ~ franchises, but mostly of the movie business ww in general)

Another theme:

What I'd like to know: did anyone see the English and the Chinese version? How was the translation? Here and seemingly in France, they missed some special moments / humor.
