I wonder what aspects of Star Wars: TFA that Chinese audience didn't like besides the remake of A New Hope?

Mhmm... How could they dislike the "remake" of ANH when 99% of general audiences in China have no idea of ANH plot??

Please dont mention oil on a film forum site, reason coz i lost a very good job last year, due to the drop in oil price, and the American owned company i worked for made large layoffs in the UK. :(

Back to the film world, its quite staggering the number of screenings a film can lose daily in China, from this Thursday to Friday alone SWTFA lost around 12,000 screenings! :o

Oh snap! Lmao. Damn . Does this mean only 100-110m in China or even lower?

Among the GA, the film is quite confusing and not emotional (perhaps even shallow) due to the lack of understanding about references to early films or even Star Wars concepts in general (what are Jedis, the Force, etc). They also don't know or care who the older characters are and what they achieved in the past, and the context about present conflicts is not easy to grasp without prior knowledge.

Maybe the chinese audience has never seen any of the previous SW-films in theaters? Even the prequels......

Or maybe they have seen the films....but not seen them on repeat viewings and only saw each film once on DVD?

That could be a factor.

No, no they don't.

VFX Porn and cheesy stories seem to be their go-to movies.

From what I saw in forums etc, they didn't like how the main characters (guys) were not very good looking.  Also overall not futuristic looking enough.  And also not enough big explosions etc.  The fight scenes and the concept of the Force also seem like a weakened version of wuxia genre to them and not even done well.

Confusing plot is another major reason. Some pointed out how ridiculous it is that the Force of the entire Universe lies within a single family. To which end, some even though that it celebrates dictatorship rather than democracy!

Comparing Transformers 4 (lol) (and F7 for that matter) to any of the US top 5 in terms of quality is pure comedy gold. I'll leave it at that.

No worries. China is still an evolving market. As mentioned by Firedeep, in a year's time the top 10 movies will change dramatically again. I won't say China has better taste but that it is evolving. Though action and special effects seem to be a trend and the common denominator with the US

If Titanic or Avatar get re-release now, both films will certainly be Top3 again in China. The screen is increasing fast, people still have nostalgic feelings towards Titanic.TFA is unfamiliar to most Chinese audience.Forget about T5,a list of films will outgross TFA this year

I really want to see how Avatar 2 does in China. Hopefully makes up for losses in other markets due to the awful exchange rates. $2 billion OS might still be a challenge though.

Not every action movie is the same. T4 is an atrocity.

My only fear is that James Cameron is no longer a spring chicken...
