Thats more than a great hold. that's a surge. A second wave of WOM kicking in. The population is saying meh to the new releases and jumping on the bandwagon to see MH. It upped its market share to showtimes ratio to 42/21 %. They will probably give a few more showtimes today and tomorrow, getting it back up to 25% or more, possibly having a 100% hold to yesterday like last week and a softer drop tomorrow. As I said Friday the bump in the numbers caused a ripple effect of millions of more yuan in the coming weeks making FF7 in play. Saturdays numbers upgrade it to possible. Next weekend is the last big hurdle. Another sub 40% hold next week and its even money. If next weekends opener is soft and rejected by the masses, we mite even see a sub 30% drop, something that happens often in domestic with a popular movie later in the run and 400m will be likely. I imagine the media will kick with some hype as it crosses milestones(2B) and TF4 and talk of being #1 all time. Is there an Obon type holiday in august in China? That would help. TF4 will be beaten next weekend, it will be $25-30m behind FF7 at 30 days, but with a projected $14m that weekend and a couple more weeks of summer itll have plenty o gas in the tank and may even hit the nitrous with media causing another wave of WOM to help to pass FF7 and $400.

MH surviving today, means it will stay #1 until next Thursday when To the Force opens, meaning MH will have 21 consecutive #1 days (7.16~8.5), topping TF4 (20 days) and second only to JTTW (25) since Avatar. 

 

Now let's hope To the Force can at least open to 20m next Thu, otherwise ... MH would stay #1 for 28 days until 8.13 when Mr. Tumour arrives.   Bai He takes over Baihe ...
