So, this will be the 6th or 7th biggest run ever in a single country just behind the 5 films which did more than $600m in US (TFA, Avatar, Titanic, JWTA), and The Dark Knight ($534m), which could be the outgrossed. And destroying the current Chinese all time record in the same way than TFA has done in US, by quite more than $100m. No words.

Also, 270 million first week is only surpassed in BO history for JW and TFA, and the most impressive record this week in Chinese BO is the highest in history!!!!!!!!!

549 million, more than the highest in US with the 2nd week of TFA last christmas.

Soemthing is changing dramtically in BO worlwide since this is an historical moment.

Well domestic gross actually includes Canada, so technically by the time it hits $500m USD, it has surpassed the gross of the Dark Knight by at least 20m.

One caution though. Six out of the seven days are public holidays, and the last day is Valentine's Day. Hence, it is unsurprising that it beats Christmas week gross in North America last year. Certainly fantastic but it is because the stars are aligned this week. I don' think China's gross will beat domestic gross this year.

Don´t forget that US market until few years ago was light years from the rest of the world.

So saying it´s unsurprising i can´t be agree. One movie 270 million and another two over 100 million, this is absolutely amazing and for me one of the top 10 events in BO history.

For sure this year China won´t beat US, but i think that moment is not very far away, maybe 5 years. And today, started the demolition of US as the n.1 domestic market stealing China this very important record, is something really historical, at least that´s how i see it.

It is even more stunning when you consider that it is not a brand. The fact that original blockbusters like this could appear in China every year is mindblowing.

Steven Chow's name is one of the biggest brands in China.

Pre-sales were down 20%. Maybe more walkups.

Mermaid 140-150m

Panda got more shows. Smaller drop there. 13m

Thursday and Friday releases look weak. Mermaid looks to hold 30%+ shows, shouldn't have much impact, 2.7B- 2.8B on sunday.

Panda will maintain 5% or more shows and should continue at 10m + and be over 930m, maybe with a Sat/sun bump. It could be M3 on Sat or Sunday.

Last year the following Monday dropped just 50%,  MM could hit 3B by wed.

If KFP3 is at 930m by the end of Sunday, it will need about 8-9 days more after that to hit 1b.

How long can it stay in the market...Is there a fixed amount weeks a hollywood movie can run?
