But sure enough, we all know this is a HUGE HUGE success in China. people were expecting 600m yuan, some even expected Rogue One numbers due to the competition before - (CNY releases) and after (La La Land and Sing did very well internationally before China). But xXx overcame all that! Next question, can xXx beat Donnie Yen's own Monkey King(2014)? 1.045billion yuan if I remember correctly! But this instagram post seems to imply that Donnie Yen already knew the box office potential, and assured the cast and director that it would do well. But it could be close. Its at 920 mill now and shound ad around 90-100 mill more mon-thu. Eventhough its going to loose sceens on friday it should still be able to gross 45-60 mill fri-sun and lift the total up near 1,05-1,07 and reach the goal the following week

Every day, the presales numbers are so high despite the low screen count.. I saw some discussions on Tieba about the investors giving away lots of tickets. China Post invested in the movie and they make their employees buy the tickets as a requirement and ask them to sell them off to fulfill some quota. Also reports of certain departments in the company having "compulsory" movie viewings of this movie. Shady stuff. There are so many ways to manipulate box office in China. Historical comparisons should be made without service fees included since Mojin's gross was reported before the system was changed. Therefore, Kung Fu Yoga hasn't surpassed Mojin yet.
