That's $48.5M for Valerian. Definitely not the $100M+ breakout I wanted but at the end of the day it helps.

I think ¥65 million OD including midnights. ¥200 million OW.

Beauty and the Beast

[1 days + 6.5 hours]

MN - 703K

OD - 12.4M

BATB Actuals

MN - 2.03M

FRI - 12.4M

SAT - 128.1M (+49%)

SUN - 96.3M (-25%)

Dunkirk[1 days + 9 hours]

MN - 2.53M

OD - 7.56M

Prediction

MN - 7.5M

FRI - 57.5M

SAT - 75M (+15%)

SUN - 60M (-20%)

OW - 200M

That would be about $30m USD opening, which would give it a pretty decent chance at $50-55m total. Pretty good result if this happens.

That's good for Valerian? Fundamental Films bought the rights to distribute for $50m according to Deadline lol

Hum Fake news from Deadline.... (who would be so stupid to buy this film 50M when it means that it neeeds to make +200M$ to be break even....).

Fundamental Film invested 50M$ in production company Europacorp in order the become one of the main shareholders last year and ensure exclusivity on the distribution of all films in the catalogue.

Fundamental Film invested €60 million in Europacorp. $50 million for Valerian, and they could get the rights of many Asia markets including China.

And never overestimate Chinese film studio's IQ.

Fundamentals invested 60M in Europacorp and is owner of 27,9 % of the total capital of the company. In Public statement of Europacrop this investement doesn't seem directly linked to Valerian. See link bellow (in french)

In this article they also speak about the strategy of Europacorp who wants to develop TV show in the US (Taken will be adapted as a TV show and broadcasted on NBC) and Cinema in China.

If that 50m is true it was probably not all in pre-sales thought, a large portion of the movie was co-finance (around 106-120 million of those 196 million euro were from Eurocorp the rest were from co-investor) Would be logic for someone being 27.9% the owner to finance around 50m of a 200m movie (and own 27.6 of it).

51.6M$ on first week. It's seems that Valerian is not doing as bad as everyone was thinking it will do.

It's already better than former Besson's production Lucy and other 2017 blockbusters like Assassin's Creed, Ghost in the Shell or Alien: Covenant. Could end nearly at the same level that Rogue One.
