Yeah, the degree to which Coco smashed the previous best Pixar film was mind-boggling. I’ll be curious to see whether the next few Pixar films fall back to previous levels totally or only partially.

Coco was a big lifeline for Pixar in China. I2 could come down to normal levels but still higher than Pixar's pre-Coco movies.

Feel Ralph2 will be a breakout and do 50% more than I2.

Grinch seems tough to gauge. Amongs recent Illumination movies Minions did $68, SLOP $58, Sing $31 and DM3 $158 (am looking at $ grosses so ER surely changes things. Guessing Minions is bigger than it seems).

8.24M @12 PM. Not entirely sure how the internal multipliers would work today, but should work as a Saturday.

It should triple that amount for 25M or so.

24-25m today. w/o the holiday TFS would have been 10m, 12m 24m, so not expecting a bump tomorrow

It'll clear $360m w/o ext now.  $365-370m with it.

I think DM3 benefited from a very aggressive marketing campaign in China and took advantage of a barren summer for family films. If I recall correctly, it was the only Hollywood film allowed during the summer blackout period and thus became the only decent film targeting children during the entirety of summer vacation.

I wonder what strings were pulled for that lucrative release date.   Marketing was insane (as it was WW with almost $600m worth in marketing partnerships)

IW has beaten FF8 in Shanghai, and soon in Beijing.

Shanghai: IW 155.2m; FF8: 150.17m; FF7:157.7M

Beijing: FF8  146.1M  ; IW 137M; FF7 159.5m

Those 2 cities accountes for 12-14% of whole country.

2pm: 1310.85

3pm: 1529.62

What would be the midpoint on Children's Day? Same as the w/e?

Last Saturday midpoint was a little later than 3PM. If 3PM turns out to be the midpoint today, it will end up with 30M!!

That's huge! Guangzhou should also be quite big, right?

Btw the presales to beat are: 4.04m.

That's what IW had for Friday at 3:00 am, so let's see if it can increase on sat PS.

It wont. PS is not even at the halfway mark yet at 6pm. I doubt it will increase in gross tomorrow. More likely to decrease or at most stay flat

Also amongst the top 3 holdovers it has had the biggest (in the fact the only) rise so far (at 6pm) from yesterday at +77.5% with the other 2 dropping -15% and -33%(solo).

Of course numbers will change by the end of the day but this just confirms further how strong MCU is with families.

Nobody will take their children to see a Rom-com, or a SW movie.
