It seems action movies are popular in China while musicals probably will never break out. Kong has big potential if WOM is good.

IMHO, nostalgia was not important for it, but dinosaurs. Films with an enormous menace or fantasy concepts use to do very well: Transformers, Pacific Rim, Warcraft, Jurassic World, Avengers, Resident Evil, it seems that Kong will be big too... the enemy is always something irrational, from other world.

Jurassic Park once was a hit  in 90s.So do King Kong.Jurassic Park 3D cross 300M+ in 2013.That's the difference.Dinosaurs are always popular around Kids and Family too.

I have it running to 110-115m. PS were 27m last night. A little over 4x.

At least a 30% bump which is decent. 

YA can be close to flat, family can be up 50-100%. Girls may frontload but the families counter with a backload. 

30-35% is Goldilocks. With that bump and an improving rating 690m/$100m has a better shot.

 

Maoyan went from 8.2 to 7.8 to 8.3 since midnight previews. Never seen that before, something is definitely up.

Dog will bump close to 100% again. W3 and RE6 up 75%.

 

Kong PS still not picking up the pace. PS will be 30% behind RE tonight. Still looking at 120-140m OD for now. Will have to adjust down if it doesn't giddy up and bump 40% tomorrow.

I am thinking 130m is possible. Its increasing 4m+ at every update. Will be over 90m by 6PM. With slightly increased take rate 130m is possible. Its at 53.80m at 130PM(increased about 4.4m in last update).

It's at 106m right now, with the pace it's going 125-130m finish for the day. Over 50%+ jump from Friday, pretty good result after the doom and gloom.

Btw, Maoyan's iPhone app -- which updates numbers in realtime as opposed to every 30 mins on the web -- has an option to show grosses either before or after ticket surcharges. Pretty spiffy app. Copy and paste 猫眼专业版 into App Store and download. Then look for "分账 (before surcharges)->综合 (after)" toggle in upper right corner.

Dropping to 7.8 rating yesterday looked gloomy. Now it's 8.3, nearly 5x PS and a 50% bump. Not bad. The run rate tapers in the last 90m. May fall just short of 125.

In regards to the Moayan score its possible its behaving like IMDB where it was initially down voted by people against the gay scene. There it was 6.1 and has risen to 7.8

Gewara, taopiaopiao, maoyan these three are online ticket flatforms, their ratings are pretty similar for the same movie.

Wanda app only shows liked ratio, its very good for any movie to have 90%, and with 95% or more legs will be fantastic.

Douban's rating for blockbusters are not useful to indicate movie legs
