Lincoln OS Thread, not Flopping that hard 66.5m

Recommended Posts

How about lets just change the status ?

Say Lincoln is doing DU OS numbers while DU is doing Lincoln level OS.

What would people say ?

"Oh, come on ! DU is a western and it is about pre-civil war liberations, no one in OS would be interested in it. It is bound to do not spectucular OS. Just check True Grift ... You are trolling if you think DU could do 300M OS. Blah blah ... "

"Wow, you go Lincoln ! Great movie, great actings. DDL is totally lincolnly. SS is truely a great film maker. It is bound to do gangbusters OS. It deservers every penny it  earns OS or DOM... and it will sweep the Oscars.  I am happy OS audience also enjoyed it ... Blah blah ... "

And now what is happening ?

"Oh, fantastic for DU ! It totally deserves it ! Go DU ! Blah Blah“

"Oh, come on ! Lincoln is about civil war policy, no one in OS would be interested in such a movie.  ... You are trolling if you think it is disappointing OS. Blah blah ... "

Such funny things happen all the time. The truth is people trend to refuse to accept the fact and will always try to spin as they can, finding excuses.

It's doing ok for a Spielberg history drama I'd say, but not exceptionally so. It will end up higher than Munich (I hope), but a lot lower than Schindler's List. Outside the US, Lincoln simply is not that big a figure.

It is not just that it is about Lincoln. It focusses only on the last 4 months of his life and is a talky political drama. If the movie were to chronicle his adult life while including battles during that period, it would have attracted more audience support overseas.

Optimal overseas audience support or not, Lincoln is still a masterpiece.

Lincoln made $13 million from 3,510 locations in 43 markets for an overseas total of $32.7 million. The Oscar-nominated flick's global cume is now $203.4 million. Stats from Fox, the film's overseas distributor: France leads the charge with $2.8m from 312 screens, while holdovers Italy ($2.2m, down only 22%), the UK ($2.2m, down only 17%), Germany ($919K, up 15%), Spain ($739K, down only 39%), and Brazil ($715K, down only 31%) show great resolve in a competitive marketplace. The international cume stands tall at $32.7m. The campaign expands into 7 markets next weekend, including Australia and Argentina.
