Ben and Kat cancelled each other out. Kat stole some votes from Ben but not enough to prevail which just shows that neither was much of a #1 choice. I also think that ZDT critical sweep started to grate. critics did that with TSN and now with ZDT. They think that awarding one movie and director as if others don`t exists will force AMPAS to crown their favorite and that just produces opposite effect. Either way, AMPAS are getting more and more independent from precursors. Not that they don`t listen to them, since all "shocker nominees were inconversation, but they just don`t necessary go along with precursor faves.
