FOX should have known better and given it an expansion this weekend.

From xiayun at KJ

"With nominations released on Thursday instead of Tuesday, it's too late for theaters to switch or add screens, and Life of Pi was losing theaters beforehand, so this is understandable. It will/should re-expand next weekend."

If nominations came on Tuesday, I'm sure Fox would've expanded it. But since it came on Thursday, it had no chance of adding theaters. Fox would be crazy to not expand it especially when it has 11 nominations

Here is thing, most of us were expecting it to have big day with nominations. I thought around 8 to 9 so FOX should've known better. Argo, Lincoln, LM and SLP are getting expansions this weekend while LOP is losing 208 theaters. It should've at least stayed flat but losing over 21% of your theater will hinder the Oscar bump.

Here is some good news for life of pi

Fox will be looking to add another 200 or so screens on the MLK weekend for “Life of Pi,” which was second with 11 Oscar noms. In its eighth week of release, it’s currently on 750 screens.

“We’re really proud of this movie,” Fox’s head of distribution Chris Aronson told TheWrap. "We think it's going to do brisk business this week, and we’re going to try it get it as out there as we can next week so that more people can see why this film is so special.”

The fact that of the 100-plus nominations, more than half went to movies that are currently playing in theaters further diminished the need for screen bartering, according to Russ Nunley, vice president of marketing and communications for the Regal Entertainment Group, one of the nation's largest theater chains.

Fox hasn't done much to push Life of Pi relative to the other big contenders. Which makes its 11 noms more impressive, really.

Totally. They weren`t too aggressive. Even WB was more aggressive with their wasted TDKR and TH push. They should have rally up behind Argo especially when ZDT started to steal its thunder. But hell no, they were pushing two movies that got labelled lesser entries in the series. What a waste. Edited by fishnets
